Spring Happenings & Highlights
Autism Fitness
We stopped in to a Northwestern Lehigh classroom to check out how Autism Fitness is going! This is a program that can be implemented in the classroom easily using some equipment like sand-bells, medicine balls, resistance bands and short hurdles. Students can get in their activity throughout the day and teachers can integrate the activities as breaks or rewards.
Music Therapy
As part of the Education Venture Grant, music therapist Bruce MacKnight from Music Therapy Associates visits a group of MDS-F students at Parkland High School weekly. These students are engaged and excited to select songs and enjoy musical instruments with their class virtually and in person!
A Visit to Early Intervention
The CLIU #21 Early Intervention Program provides free developmental evaluations for children ages 3-5 residing in Lehigh or Carbon counties. EI focuses on speech/language, social/emotional and physical skills.
Life Skills Talent Show
This year's life skills talent show featuring students from CCTI was a little different due to the abundance of precautionary measures taken due to COVID-19. We decided to record the talent show segments and share them on video! Hopefully, next year we can go back to our usual live show, which we all know and love.
Virtual Teaching for Hearing & Vision Impaired Learners
Related Services like audiology, interpreting, and vision are performed every day by dedicated professionals in our organization. During the pandemic crisis, these services have had to convert to a virtual format, which presented a unique challenge for our staff. Many online tools and virtual strategies were utilized that helped our staff continue teaching and our students continue learning uninterrupted.
Social-Emotional Learning
We highlighted social-emotional learning in many of our classrooms during a week in March for SEL Day! Our teachers are diligent about incorporating social-emotional learning because the benefits are clear; increased self-awareness, academic achievement, and positive behaviors both in and out of the classroom.
Congratulations 2021 Graduates!
