CSCS Panther Parent Newsletter!
August 26th, 2018
A Message from Mr. Anderson
This summer has been a huge undertaking with capital project improvements, new technology, and a significant amount of continuous professional learning for our faculty, staff, and administration. All of this to ensure that we have the best possible education for our students as we dedicate ourselves to the academic, social, and emotional growth of every child.
This week is has some very special events as our teachers come back to school and this Thursday we welcome everyone back with our PTO sponsored Ice Cream Social!
Please note the following:
-Tuesday, August 28th - PreK Ice Cream Social/Information Night from 6:00-7:00pm.
-Thursday, August 30th - 1-6th Grade Ice Cream Social from 4:00pm-5:00pm. Please note that kindergarten had their Ice Cream Social information night on August 16th so, even through their classrooms will be open for parents to drop off supplies the kindergarten teachers themselves will not be available.
-Tuesday, September 4th is the first day of school!
It is also important to remind parents that our school has qualified for free breakfast and lunch for all students this school year in the elementary school. More information regarding this is located within this online newsletter and the Panthergram Parent Newsletter that was sent home the beginning of August. Parents will still be required to complete the Free and Reduced Lunch Applications so that we can track for future and continued eligibility.
Please enjoy the rest of this online newsletter that highlights some more summer celebrations along with important information for the beginning of the school year. You can also access our mid summer Panthergram Parent Newsletter that was sent home the first week of August from this newsletter or at the school website www.cscsd.org.
We are so excited to welcome you back and can't wait for an amazing school year!

Student Behavioral Expectations - ROARS (Respect, Ownership, Attitude, Responsibility and Safety)
As we have done in the past, we will be recognizing students when they show ROARS at school by giving them Panther Paws! When your child receives a Panther Paw he/she will be told specifically what he/she did to earn it, for example, if a student was witnessed helping another student who accidentally dropped their books on the ground, instead of simply saying "great job! Here is a Panther Paw" The teacher would say something like, "I love the way that you showed respect to your friend by helping them pick up their books! Great job, here is a Panther Paw for showing respect!". Classrooms will collect Panther Paws and we will have weekly drawings for students and build towards our Panther Palooza celebration at the end of the school year! We are shooting for 60,000 Panther Paws this year!
For your reference below this message is a direct link to the ROARS behavioral matrix on our school webpage. This link will allow you to download and print our ROARS behavior matrix along with our acronyms to teach behavior (KAHFOOTY, SLANT, THINK, and Voice Levels).
Showing ROARS at Home - Helping Families Get Back to the School Routine!
That's where our ROARS Home Behavioral Matrix can help! In conjunction with our PTO, faculty, staff, and parents we created this set of expectations to connect to being at home with categories to help teach ROARS in several different outside of school settings. Below the picture is also a link to a pdf file of this matrix so you can print it and hang it up at home! We will also have copies sent home the first week of school for parents.
Welcome To Our New Kindergartners!
This Coming School Year - Breakfast and Lunch Will Be FREE to All Students in the Elementary!
Free & Reduced applications will be sent home as usual. These must still be filled out listing all family members and household income. Income will not affect the free meals for all students at the Savona Elementary Building. Income will not affect the free meals for all students.
Below are some basic Q&A for parents:
Question: We never qualified for free or reduced lunches before. Are you sure we can eat for FREE?
Answer: YES!! ALL Savona students get FREE breakfast and lunch!
Question: I like to order extra food. How does that work?
Answer: The regular breakfast and lunch is free. Extra food will require cash on the account (no charging).
Question: I had money on my account from last year. What happens to those funds?
Answer: Any money carried over from last year is on accounts and can be used for extras or snacks.
Question: We used to have to fill out an application to receive free or reduced lunch. Do we still need to fill out this form?
Answer: Yes. Free & Reduced applications will be sent home as usual. These must still be filled out listing all family members and household income. Although your children in the Savona Building will receive free breakfast and lunch regardless of family income, the completed forms help the district receive other forms of funding.
Question: My child likes to bring a lunch. Is this ok?
Answer: Students who bring their lunch can still participate through the “SIDE KICKS” meal which is veggie choice, fruit, and milk!
