Hello Bears of Bryan Middle!
The first week of 5-days of in person has been a success! It has been wonderful to hear students voices in the classroom and see more faces in the hallways. Students have done a great job adapting to some of the changes to the lunch procedures, and getting in and out of the hallways quickly. As we continue in this semester, please make sure your student is wearing their mask to school each day.
Morning Drop Off Safety Reminders: We have noticed a few safety concerns at drop off and pick up on the east side (main drive). We need your help to ensure students are safely entering the building each day.
- During morning drop off, please utilize the right side of the cones to drop off your student. We do not want students dropped off in the far lane (left side) as they would need to cross traffic to enter the building. After dropping off the student, you can go to the left lane to exit the main drive. Remember the main drive is one way (south).
- During morning drop off, please drive to as far down the right side of the cones to drop your student off. Students eating breakfast can now walk through the main doors to get to the cafeteria. Please do not stop near the portables as this hinders others from driving down the drive. This has been causing a traffic back-up.
- After dropping off your student, please make sure that you are not looking down at your cell phone. We have noticed a trend of some cars leaving and not focusing on the road ahead.

Khan Math Academy Resources - Part of Math Grade Every Semester
▪ Students engage in Khan Course Mastery to strengthen skills from current and previous grade levels.
▪ Students work on Khan Course Mastery on their own time and at their own pace. A minimum of 30 – 60 minutes per week is expected.
▪ Students will earn a summative grade each semester for their work towards skill mastery according to a district provided rubric.
▪ Students can access Khan Academy Course Mastery on any device with internet connection, such as laptops, iPads, and cell phones.
▪ Students who use Khan Academy for 30 minutes a week are more than twice as likely to meet grade-level math standards per Khan research.
▪ Students advance through Khan Course Mastery by correctly answering questions in mastery challenges, unit tests, skill quizzes, and/or individual skill practice. Videos and hints are immediately available to assist, clarify, and explain.
Teachers will encourage progress and will help with goal setting and provide feedback on their progress in Khan Course Mastery every two weeks. Your encouragement as the parent/guardian is also vital as we all work together to increase students’ confidence and progress in their mathematics learning.

Athletic Information
Girls basketball and Boys basketball practice sessions will begin on Monday, January 25th. Students who want to play will signup online.
GENERAL INFORMATION
- Safety is #1! This return to practice in BBB and GBB are tentative and are subject to change at any time. All state and district COVID-19 screening procedures and other protocols will be followed to ensure school and community safety.
- Practices are for in person students only. 100% remote students cannot participate.
- To be eligible for sports you must: Have a physical, good grades, athletic forms signed, parent permission, activity card. Forms are on our website if you need it.
- Boys Basketball Conditioning II will be practicing in small cohort groups on Mondays (for students' whose last name ends in A-K)) and Thursdays (for students' whose last name ends in L-Z).
- Girls Basketball will be practicing in small cohort groups Monday through Friday beginning Tuesday, February 2. (changed 1/27/21)*
- Cohort groups may need to be adjusted to safely accommodate all students.(25 students/cohort group)
- There will be additional conditioning sessions made available to interested students on Wednesdays
- Practices will be afterschool till 5:00PM on your assigned day
- Transportation is available to students who already qualify for transportation
- These sessions are for practices only! No games will be played
- Direct questions to any adult if you have them!
- *due to current numbers, GBB will need to add additional practice days per COVID guidelines (e.g. 25/cohort group)*

Attendance
Did you know that a student should have 1 or fewer absences per month? While there is not much we can do about the weather, there are two key steps every family can take to help avoid absences.
1. Develop back up plans for getting your children to school in winter weather. That could mean checking with other families who have a car that can manage in the snow or forming a “walking school bus” to walk your children to school with other parents.
2. Keep your children healthy. Dress them warmly for the cold weather and make sure they have got hats and gloves. Encourage them to wash their hands regularly and use hand sanitizer.
