SKYRIDGE MIDDLE SCHOOL
MAY 2019
A MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL WILLIAMS
Dear Skyhawk Families,
Here we are, once again, at May. A school year always goes quickly, and probably no part moves as quickly as the time from May to the last day of school. Kids and teachers are hard at work wrapping up one school year and we are busy, behind the scenes, working on the plans for next year. We definitely don’t have a problem staying busy!
As I sit here writing this newsletter I am very happy to look out my window and see the sun shining. It reminds me that our track season is upon us and our 200 students who are participating are finally getting to practice without running through the rain. If you are looking for a great way to experience the sunshine, check out our website and come out and cheer on our Skyhawks as they run, jump, and throw their way through the season. For an extra treat, come out to Doc Harris stadium on May 21 to watch the Liberty vs Skyridge Twilight track meet. With about 400 athletes, it is quite a site. First race starts at 5:30, so don’t miss it.
May also means that it is testing season on the ‘Ridge. Smarter Balanced testing occurs for our 6th, 7th and 8th graders in Language Arts and Math. Our 8th graders test in science, as well. We do our best to encourage our student to give their best effort and not get too stressed about the results. We use the data to help guide our teaching, but we don’t want to cause a lot of anxiety for our students. Thank you for all that you do at home to support this approach and to please try to have students in school for their testing days. If you have not seen it yet, you can check out our testing calendar here. If you have questions concerning this testing, please don’t hesitate to ask.
This month will go by quickly and before we know it, you will be reading the last newsletter of the school year. Thank you for all the support you give our students and for sending us great kids to work with. As always, please contact us in the office if we can help in any way.
Thank you,
Clint Williams
CLASS OF 2023 SOCIAL
Chaperones needed. Please consider chaperoning the 8th grade social . Chaperones will be stationed away from the dance instead monitoring parts of the school where students are not allowed. This allows students to enjoy the event without parents watching. CSD staff will be responsible watching students.
CLASS OF 2023 SPIRIT WEAR
FOR 8TH GRADERS **MAY 1-15 ONLY** – For a limited time, current 8th graders at all Camas middle schools have the chance to purchase hoodies and tees with the “Class of 2023” graphic and the logo of the high school they will be attending in the 2019-2020 school year: Discovery, Hayes Freedom, or Camas HS. Place your order May 1-15 using the paper order form found in the office or online at www.skypto.weebly.com. All cash/checks should be made to Skyridge PTO and turned into Mrs. Soohoo in the office. Orders will be delivered mid-June during 8th grade lunch.
Note: This is a limited print run and no reorders will be available. Students have fun wearing their high school spirit wear to end-of-year events; however, they are not a required purchase.

From $10 pizza sponsors, to lunch ingredients or side dishes, to helping hands, we thank you in advance for helping us make this week a success!

COLLEGE BOUND
In 2007 the Washington State Legislature established the College Bound Scholarship. This program was created to provide state financial aid to low-income students who may not consider college a possibility due to the cost. The scholarship covers tuition (at comparable public college rates), some fees, and a small book allowance.
Eligibility for the scholarship is a two-part process. Students in 7th or 8th grade whose family meets the income requirements must submit and complete an application by June 30 of the student’s 8th grade year. Then students must meet the College Bound Pledge requirements and income-eligibility as determined by the student’s financial aid application (FAFSA or WASFA) in their senior year of high school.
We would like to encourage all eligible 7th and 8th graders to apply.
