Message from Mrs. McClure

Happy Fall Alward Families!

Fall is definitely my favorite time of year! I love the cooler weather, going to football games, enjoying the pumpkin patches and apple orchards, eating and drinking everything pumpkin, and gearing up for the holiday season that will be here before we know it! At school, the beginning of year testing is slowing down and teachers and students are fully immersed in the curriculum. As a school, we have been practicing different safety drills every week. This Wednesday, we will have our first practice evacuation drill starting at 9:30 a.m. This drill can take up to 45 minutes as we have to have all students exit the building and travel down to the Fellowship Reformed Church as this is our evacuation site. Please avoid signing your child out between the times of 9:30-10:30 a.m. on this day. Thank you for your help and support as we practice these important safety drills!

Our Walkathon Fundraiser is well underway! The theme for this year's walkathon is Superheroes! Students are welcome to dress up as Superheroes with capes on Friday, October 5th. Please avoid masks that cover your child's entire face.

I am so excited for our school to partner with our PTC to get our students and staff excited about raising money for this school year. Our goal this year is to raise $15,000 for school committee initiatives and technology. If every child raises $34, we will hit the $15,000 mark! Here are a few goals that we have set:

$10000-Mr. Matt and I will run an obstacle course during the Walkathon

$12500-Mr. Matt and I will trade places for a day

$15000-I will camp out on the roof of our school (Mr. Matt and some of our teachers have agreed to join me) on the night of our Family Literacy Night towards the end of October.

Thank you to our Walkathon Committee for getting donations from local businesses to help support our Walkathon. Their donations have paid for every student to get a Walkathon t-shirt. Students will receive their t-shirts on the day of Walkathon, Friday, October 5th!

Finally, this Friday is Homecoming! Students are invited to wear blue and gold for the start of our spirit week!! I have also volunteered to help support the High School STEM Club by participating in their dunk tank prior to the start of the football game. I will be in the dunk tank from 5:30-5:45. Come help support the High School STEM Club and take a chance at dunking me in the dunk tank!

Have a wonderful week and enjoy the fall weather that is in the air!

Count on Me-Alward Students and Staff Making a Difference

This year, our students and staff are working on taking initiative to make a difference in the lives of others. If you hear about how an Alward student, teacher, or staff member made a difference in someone else's life, please fill out the Google Form below. We will be posting these "Count on Me" sightings on our new bulletin boards right outside the main office. Students, parents and staff members can recognize others for things as simple as someone always saying hello to them or holding the door for them. We can also recognize others for going as far as helping out in the community. We want to know how our students and staff are making a difference at Alward and out in the community and celebrate these acts of kindness this year! Thank you for taking the time to support this "Count on Me" initiative this school year!
