Assistive Technology and Universal Design for Learning Lab


Educators often struggle to give all learners meaningful and engaging access to the knowledge and skills that form the foundation of a robust, inspired life. In addition to explicit reading instruction, technology is a component of support for learners with dyslexia, and all learners. The Assistive Technology and Universal Design for Learning Lab offers two full days of live, virtual 30-minute presentations of riveting content from national experts in the areas of assistive technology and universal design. The sessions are facilitated onsite by Oregon Technology Access Program (OTAP) and allow for questions to be asked and answered. The sessions underscore the importance of upfront design of curriculum and instruction to consider the preferences and needs of individual learners, and to ensure equitable access. The Universal Design for Learning framework guides us to think through strategies to increase engagement, representation and expression to be prepared for anyone who might come to your table…. because Universal means ALL!


All sessions in the exhibit hall at the Oregon Convention Center on Friday and Saturday are delivered via Zoom, and streamed to Facebook Live. Sessions are archived for future viewing.


Technology tools and devices will be available throughout the day on Friday and Saturday. Volunteers from Community Vision AT Lab and Pacific University School of Learning and Teaching offer support for hands-on exploration of assistive technology and suggestions for classroom supports, Universal Design for Learning.

Presentation format

All live, virtual 30-minute sessions begin on the hour. Sessions are facilitated by OTAP, Oregon Technology Access Program, with presenters Zooming in from across the country. Each session is followed by interactive Q&A with the expert presenter.
