PWA NW Youth Careers Expo
Come experience the largest Youth Careers Expo for NW students on February 22nd. Load the bus at 11:00 am and join us to learn about the variety of career opportunities in the Portland Metro Area. Try hands-on activities, network with those in the field you are interested in, and get your questions answered. Open to Juniors and Seniors. Sack lunch is provided unless you want to bring your own. This will fill quickly so see Mr. Henderson in the College and Career Center today to sign up.
MHCC Cyber Technology Day
Mt. Hood Community College is hosting a Cyber Technology Day on March 3rd from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. If a career in computer technology or cybersecurity is the path you want to take, come join us to explore how MHCC can support your dreams. Transportation and lunch are provided. See Mr. Henderson in the College and Career Center for more information.
It's Scholarship Season...are you ready?
Some items you will need to be successful:
- Activities Chart/Resume
- Letters of Recommendation (from teachers, pastor, employer, coach, etc.)
- FAFSA Student Aid Report (SAR)
- Photos, Certificates, Proof of Involvement

19 scholarships are available this year to class of 2023 CHS students and to former CHS graduates who are now in college.

Class of 2023- FAFSA Completion
Seniors, have you completed your FAFSA or ORSAA?
**Only 35% of you have!!
While your decision about what you are going to do in the future may not be set in stone, you should complete the FAFSA or ORSAA, as well as your Oregon Promise application, to maximize your options. Free money and loans are available to help you create your future. So far, your class has a 35% completion rate. Countdown to the Oregon Promise Grant Deadline
Seniors, have you completed the two items needed to access your free Oregon Promise grant funds?
1. Complete the Oregon Promise application by June 1
2. Complete the FAFSA or ORSAA by June 1
Remember, seniors must have a 2.0 GPA or better and plan to attend an Oregon Community College in the fall. There is no second chance to go back later to apply for these funds!!
OSAC Grants
The Office of Student Access and Completion (OSAC) offers some generous grant (free) opportunities.
Oregonstudentaid.gov. Grant Information
- Oregon Opportunity Grant (Oregon's largest state-funded, need-based grant)
- Oregon Promise Grant (for use at OR community colleges for eligible students)
- Oregon Tribal Student Grant (or eligible Oregon tribal students to offset the cost of attendance at eligible Oregon colleges and universities.)
- Oregon Student Child Care Grant (helps parents enrolled in postsecondary education to obtain safe, dependable child care)
- Chafee Education and Training Grant (funding to help current or former foster care youth with postsecondary education and training.)
- Deceased or Disabled Public Safety Officer Grant (supports dependents of public safety officers in the state of Oregon who were killed or disabled in the line of duty.)
- Oregon Barber and Hairdresser Grant (one-time grants to low-income students who are attending a licensed school of barbering, hair design, cosmetology, or manicure in Oregon that participates in Federal Title IV student aid programs )
- Oregon National Guard State Tuition Assistance (funding toward undergraduate tuition, certain fees, and a book allowance, at eligible Oregon postsecondary institutions for current Oregon National Guard Members.)

MHCC Foundation Scholarship-Due March 31
If students plan to attend MHCC in the fall of 2023, this is the scholarship to do! There are multiple scholarships available to seniors with one online application. One is particularly great, the MHCC Foundation Scholarship. Completing the application is a terrific way to enhance the benefits of the Oregon Promise, too.
What is the PCC Future Connect Scholarship? **Due Date Changed to March 8th!!
Future Connect is a scholarship and support program for students who identify as first-generation or low-income. We focus on eliminating barriers to college, and provide students with on-going support throughout their time at PCC.
Through scholarship money, career guidance, and personalized advising, Future Connect helps students build pathways to their futures.

PCC Foundation Scholarships- another bunch of scholarship opportunities at PCC- due Feb. 1
FBI Summer Teen Academy
The FBI Portland division is now accepting applications for the July 11th to the 14th, 2023 Summer Teen Academy. This academy provides a unique opportunity for motivated high school students to develop leadership skills by engaging them in team-building experiences, exposing them to careers in law enforcement, and encouraging them to communicate and collaborate across cultures. ASE Program Applications Due Soon
The Apprenticeships in Science and Engineering (ASE) Program provides full-time summer internship experiences to 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students beginning with free workshops on cover letter writing and interview skills training. Successful applicants are selected by ASE mentors and gain professional experience while working as interns with mentor professionals from industry, university, non-profit, and government agencies. Applications are due in March 3rd. See ASE Application Instructions for requirements and information on how to apply.
Military Visits at Lunch
Below is the schedule of when each branch of the military will have a table set up at the 3 lunches at CHS.
Air Force- 3rd Wednesday of each month
Army- 2nd and 4th Mondays of each monthMarines- 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each month
Navy- 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month
Oregon Army National Guard- 1st and 3rd Thursdays of each month

A Tool Available to Explore Careers
Oregon CIS Free and Open Access for All
ODE is excited to announce the launch of Oregon Career Information System (Oregon CIS) Free and Open Access for All! This means that every Oregonian, from middle school students to adults, now has access to the Oregon CIS suite. Oregon CIS is the state’s official career information system, providing an online library full of career information and career planning tools customized for Oregonians. This access allows users to review information and tools, such as career assessments, occupation information, educational training, career plans, and even personal education plans (PEPs).
