Updates During Closings, Principal Lorraine Johnson
From Principal Lorraine Johnson
March 13, 2020
With schools closing March 13-27, I wanted to keep you updated with any event changes or new information regarding our school program.
While this can be a time of uncertainty for our students and families, we want our students to feel safe and reassured that we will take good care of them. We know many are concerned about grades and activities. Please know we will work to reschedule any events that we possibly can and will keep you updated along the way. Students whose parents chose to keep them home Thursday, March 12th will not be penalized, and their absences will be excused.
Below is a list of updates, and I'll continue to add new updates to this same page through March 27th. I have also emailed our students with information that affects them. Please keep in mind that things are evolving daily.
Thank you for the many ways you support our school, staff and students. Stay healthy, and If I can answer any questions for you or can help in any way, please email me at email@example.com.
Event Updates and Important Information for Parents During School Closing
Sixth Grade Orientation: (Scheduled for March 24th) Is postponed until we know more. It will be rescheduled.
Extra-curricular Events (including field trips, athletics, clubs, dances) All extra-curricular activities, practices, and events are cancelled until further notice.
Eighth Grade Semi Formal: (Scheduled for March 19th) The eighth grade semi formal has been cancelled until further notice. If there is any possibility that we can hold it at another time, we will. If for some reason we cannot hold the dance between now and the end of the school year, students will receive a refund.
Disney Trip: The chorus field trip that was scheduled to take place April 3-6 has been cancelled. We will work with representatives to see what the possibilities are for rescheduling or postponing it based on guidance from health officials.
Special Olympics The Coweta County School System will follow the recommendations of Special Olympics of Georgia and suspend all Special Olympics and recreation therapy activities from now until we return from spring break holidays. They will continue to keep everyone informed should anything change in regard to this timeline.
The district has asked us to please keep in mind that the purpose of our closure is social distancing. If a parent asks to pick up a Chromebook or medication, he/she should email me directly. We are not making an announcement to parents to come pick up things. It’s on an individual basis by appointment with me, and it is for critical items only.
Nine-week Exams: Any decision of this nature will be made based upon the duration of this cancellation. More information will be provided at a later time.
Standardized Testing Any decision of this nature will be made based upon the duration of this cancellation. More information will be provided at a later time. See March 16th update to this above.
Learning Opportunities During School Closing
Our teachers worked this week to provide students with optional learning activities that can be done at home while schools are closed. (They were shared through each teacher's Google Classroom Thursday.) These activities are designed to enrich and reinforce learning; however, they are voluntary, because we know each family’s circumstances may be different during this time. Activities are in place to help students and to provide them with meaningful learning experiences without overwhelming them. Students will not be penalized for not completing the activities.
Even though students have access to the assignments via Google Classroom, we provided a comprehensive list by grade level and subject for parents to access easily. The link is located on the front page of our website, and at the link below.
