District Update - Feb. 2
Superintendent's Message
It seems like just yesterday we were celebrating the turn of the New Year. Two scheduled “no school” Mondays and a few snow days later, and we find ourselves welcoming the second month of 2024.
With a little over half of the 2023-24 school year in the books, I would like to extend my gratitude to our staff, administration, teachers, students, and families for their collaboration and commitment. We have a tremendous amount of positive momentum in our district, and together, we have all played a role in achieving this.
February is a busy time on our campus, as events and activities once again populate our calendar following the lighter-scheduled holiday season. From the MHS Showcase and parent-teacher conferences to Academic M and second-grade spring concerts, there are many opportunities to support our students’ academic and extracurricular pursuits by joining us on campus.
This month also marks the start of student scheduling for the next school year. Our staff and administration have worked diligently to ensure families have a smooth scheduling experience and are well-informed about their course options. As a district, we are dedicated to educating and empowering our students by offering a comprehensive education that fulfills both their academic needs and personal passions. We continually look for additional ways to provide all Middies with learning opportunities that keep them interested, inspired, and engaged.
As a district, we could not foster a growth mindset nor improve the educational experience for all students without a community that is committed to education, supporting its schools, and getting involved. At Midview, we are proud to have this community connection, and it is so appreciated. As always, should you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to a building principal or the Board Office.
Take care,
Dr. Willingham

Midview Local Schools Aims to Reduce Student Absenteeism with the Addition of New Role
This past summer, the Lorain County Juvenile Court encouraged local school districts to take a more active role in handling their truancy cases. This was a significant change in the truancy process, whereas, in years passed, cases were overseen by county School Attendance Officers.
Midview administration immediately began planning what a successful school attendance initiative would look like for the 23-24 school year and beyond. Read more about our in-house Truancy Officer and our proactive approach to reducing absenteeism.
Board Appreciation Month
The building principals shared short messages and gifts of appreciation from their students and staff. Some highlights included calendars designed by East students and coffee cups designed by North students, customized wood planks created in the Middle School's MakerSpace, candy-themed survival kits from the MHS Key Club, and countless thank-you cards! The team also shared a special video that is sure to brighten anyone's day!
MHS Showcase & CCP Night
On February 6 from 5-7 p.m., Midview High School will host its annual Showcase as a way to "showcase" the many opportunities it offers students! Families and students of all ages are invited to learn more about the High School's various classes, Advanced Placement (AP) courses, career-tech pathways, and extracurricular activities. The evening will also feature an informational session about College Credit Plus (CCP) that will begin at 6 p.m.

New Parent Communication Tool
New Parent Communication Tool
Midview Local Schools will soon introduce a new K-12 teacher-to-parent communication tool called Rooms. Integrated with our Midview App, Rooms allows parents/guardians to access class-specific announcements/updates and directly message teachers all in one location.
This feature will become available in our app near the middle of February. In the coming weeks, you will receive an invitation with instructions on how to join Rooms and access your child’s classroom and teacher! If you haven't already, please download our app for free at the Apple App Store or on Google Play.
