Bobcat Connection
Learning. Growing. Collaborating & Achieving @KrumHighSchool
October 2, 2017
Hello, Bobcat Families.
Happy October! Congratulations to our Lady Cats on a come from behind win over Argyle on Friday night! These ladies defined BFND and perseverance!
During the month of October, we will focus on safe, healthy, and positive choices. October is National Bullying Awareness Month and Breast Cancer Awareness month. During Red Ribbon week, we will bring awareness to bullying prevention; in addition to mind-altering substances such as drugs and alcohol. Although college and career readiness is imperative, we must not forget the importance of socialization and making positive choices. We encourage participation in these activities.
This year Student Council is hosting a service project each grading period as part of our BOBCAT ROCKS initiative. Initially the Student Council was going to adopt a school in Houston; however, it has since changed in order to rally around two of our very own students. As you are aware, two of our students, Dylan Smith and Blake Andrus, were in an ATV accident last week. Dylan and Blake often use a phrase, "esketit", meaning "Let's Get It". Thus, the first nine weeks Bobcats Rock project is "Esketit for Dylan & Blake." We are asking for students to bring one (or more) of the following items to their advisory teacher for participation in this event. Students can participate by writing a card or letter of encouragement, donating blood, buying a t-shirt (order forms available soon), donating money for Dylan's medical expenses, bringing a magazine, etc...
On Friday, we talked to Mrs. Andrus and she shared that both are progressing. Blake is at home and Dylan is still in the hospital. Even with progress, there are still challenges ahead. I shared that several people are asking for updates. She told me that Mrs. Smith posts updates on her Facebook page, and that her account is not set on private. Thus, anyone can check for updates regarding Dylan via Rebecca Smith's Facebook page. She also shared that there is a GoFundme account for Dylan to offset medical expenses. Both families are extremely thankful for the incredible amount of support you have all given to them over the past week. In case you were unaware, the Smith Family just moved to Krum ISD this year. Mrs. Andrus shared that Mrs. Smith has told her even with this tragic event, they are so glad they moved here. Mrs. Smith added that all of her children have received overwhelming support from our students, staff, and community. Mrs. Andrus provided multiple examples of our students who have reached out in support of both families.
In a day where discord floods our media outlets, the Bobcat Family and our Krum community exemplify altruism and goodwill. Thank you for the positive example you give and for supporting our students and staff. Krum is special because of you.
Go Bobcats!
