Weekly Update
February 6-10, 2023
Message From the Principal
Students will get to shop the PBIS store this week and next to spend their hard earned points. Lots of students purchased pizza coupons and have been able to enjoy a pizza with friends during lunch, we have lots of other items they can purchase as well.
We are starting our 5th week of school for the 3rd 9 weeks, please check in with your student about their school work and grades. If they need to stay for ASAP please reach out and let us know.
Parent Teacher Conferences will be held on Monday February 20th from 12-7:30pm. We will be sending sign ups out soon. These conferences will be student led and will be scheduled by advisory teacher. It is extremely important that you bring your child with you and if they are in 7th and 8th grade they need to make sure they bring their iPads to show their digital presentation. We will be doing a prize for the advisory that has the best attendance for conferences!!

Connecting with the Counselor
5th Grade
We are starting to dive into different Career Clusters! This week, we looked at the Human Services career cluster. These are the "helping people" careers such as doctors, teachers, legislators, nurses, hair stylists, etc. I would encourage you to ask your student about this career cluster and see if they can remember some of the careers that belong in here. If YOU have a job that belongs in this cluster, talk to your student about what your job looks like and why it belongs here.
6th, 7th, 8th Grade
Students continued to progress through their lessons on Xello to learn more about how their interests and abilities can help them identify a possible career match. I would encourage you to ask your student about the lesson that they completed this week.
8th Grade
I will be in 8th grade classrooms on Monday to start a conversation about their classes for their freshman year! Then, on Tuesday and Wednesday, Mrs. Scherschligt (the HS counselor) will be down to help them enter their classes in Xello to begin planning for high school graduation. Attached, is a copy of the 2023-2024 JWHS Coursebook for you to review with your student. After your student enters their classes in Xello (this week on Tuesday and Wednesday), we will print them off and send them home for you to review with your student.
Please make sure that you plan on attending the Incoming Freshman Parent Night on Tuesday, March 7th.
