#17 Covid-19 Notice

9 September 2021 - Re-opening in Alert L2

Dear Parents, Whānau and Caregivers

Tumeke Paparangi! Thanks for all your support as school opened today under alert level 2. The children are enjoying being back with their friends and so are the teachers! Thanks for your patience at the top of the driveway and supporting your child as they returned to school today.

We are grateful for your messages about Ilona Szakats. We are making a message board to send to Ilona's family. If you would like to send a condolence message please email it to the office or post in the letterbox at the top of the driveway.

Over the coming weeks some of our end of term programmes will be re-started but there will be changes to some events that were planned between now and the end of year as we accommodate L2 requirements.

  • Swimming lessons for Y2-6 are cancelled this year. It is not possible to deliver this programme under the L2 hygiene and safety requirements.
  • Rākau Nui Swimming Sports was cancelled during lockdown.
  • Dance Splash at the Michael Fowler Centre has been cancelled as there was no way to run this event under L2 conditions.

For families who have already made a contribution to these activities we will be processing credits to your child's account next week. If your preference is a refund please email the school office. Please be sure to include your account details, including name of account and account number. We appreciate your patience while we process the payments.

  • Tomorrow I will be contacting parents of Y4 and Y5 students regarding the 2022 camp. We will be sending a survey to you and ask that you respond by Monday morning.

Please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher or me if there is something you need assistance with.

Ngā mihi nui, Tracey Arthurs, Principal/Tumuaki

Face coverings

Masks are not compulsory at schools. The decision to wear a face covering is up to you and your whānau, whatever your decision it will be respected. We are not in a position to provide masks for students, so please send a clean mask from home each day. Our staff are not required to wear masks, but may choose to do so. Any visitors to our school may also choose to wear masks.

What's different in Level 2?

Our focus first of all is all about the well-being of staff and students and re-setting routines for learning. The health and wellness of staff and students is our priority.

At Alert Level 2 there is low risk of community transmission and it provides us with a lot more opportunities to engage and connect with others. However, there are still a number of public health requirements we all need to follow. Please do continue to monitor your health and do not send your children to school if they are not well (and please seek advice about getting a COVID test).

For us, all the required safety precautions for Alert Level 2 will be in place which include following the recommendations from the public health experts. This means we will regularly clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces, encourage everyone to frequently wash their hands and cough and sneeze into their elbow. While physical distancing is not a requirement in schools, we will be doing our best to keep students from congregating in very large numbers and keeping spaces well-ventilated.

Bring chromebooks and equipment back to school

Thanks to families who returned borrowed equipment today. If you were loaned a device or books during the lockdown, please bring it back with you to school immediately. Don't forget the chargers for devices! Children can return equipment to their teacher. All equipment will be cleaned before it is circulated for use again.

Contact Us

Remember that parents can use the App to send a message about a student absence. It is our preferred method of contact for non-attendance and is quick and easy to do.
