SOAR Summer 2022
A FREE, in-person extended summer learning camp
What is SOAR?
SOAR is (Summer Opportunity for Academic Readiness), a FREE, in-person extended learning camp for Richland Two students currently enrolled (2021-2022 school year) in pre-K through 11th grade.
Current Elementary School Students (rising kindergarten - rising fifth OR pre-K - fourth)
At the elementary level, instruction will focus on English/language arts and mathematics and possibly additional enrichment opportunities.
Current Middle School Students
At the middle level, the focus will be preparing students for the upcoming school year in the areas of English/language arts and mathematics.
Current High School Students
High school students will be able to select one course of the available courses. High school students will be able to earn an elective half credit if completed successfully. Course offerings will include several English, Mathematics, Science, and ACT/SAT Prep and US History.
SOAR IS NOT
- The Read to Succeed Summer Reading Camp offered by the district each summer.
- Traditional summer school for middle and high school students who need summer school to be promoted to the next grade. Students can participate in both programs if needed.
- ESY, the Special Education Extended School Year (ESY) Services that are offered each summer. Some Special Education students will have the option of attending both SOAR and ESY.
Who Can Attend SOAR?
Current rising kindergarten through 11th-grade students are eligible to attend SOAR.
Why is the District Offering SOAR?
Last spring we asked parents if they would be interested in an extended learning camp provided by the district. In response, 3,618 students attended SOAR last summer. We surveyed parents again at the end of the camp and the responses indicated a desire for SOAR again this summer.
We hope that by sharing the information earlier in the year, more families will participate.

Your response will allow us to plan for the appropriate number of teachers, support staff, and bus drivers needed. It will also help us determine if we will need to offer the program at every elementary, middle, and high school, or if we will offer this opportunity at centrally located schools.
