Thought for the week
I think everyone has their own level of comfort on zoom. It also depends on the group you are zooming with. We also should think about how many zooms our students are doing and their comfort. Based on the early findings from the MS/HS student survey many of our students feel uncomfortable with zoom meetings, feeling very self-conscious. Depending on their home situation, they may not have a great place to zoom either.
In no what am I saying ditch zoom. We really need this resource! The article did offer a few alternatives. There are different ways we can hold zooms that can reduce the stress and mental focus required during the meeting. Using audio-only, using the different angles of viewing, using an emoji. It also may be a good idea for us to have a work area we use for professional zooms and our relaxed area to zoom with friends and family.
We are navigating a whole new world. Finding little ways to reduce stress and mental demand are helpful for our overall wellbeing.
Staff Share- Opportunities to share the amazing work we all do!
Less is More
The one project addressed 4 aspects of the chapter in one assignment. Preparing and grading a summative assessments like this one can become time-consuming. This one assessment can assess a large section of learning. It reduces the workload for teachers and students while keeping to the nitty-gritty of what needs to be demonstrated.
ENGAGEMENT
The poster project not only was an assessment of students' understanding, but it incorporated a little fun. The creativity and individuality of the project will allow for student collaboration, but cheating and copying will be much more difficult.
