No Place for Hate: Week of Respect
No Place for Hate, is an initiative of the Anti- Defamation League, that enable schools and organizations to challenge anti-Semitism, racism, and bigotry in all forms. By providing an innovative and powerful model for creating more inclusive environments, No Place for Hate aims to reduce bias and bullying while increasing an appreciation for diversity and building communities of respect. At Hurffville our mission is to create a positive school climate by encouraging our huskies to Be a Friend.
Red Ribbon Week
Beginning Monday, October 19th, Hurffville will participate in School Violence Awareness/ Red Ribbon Week with several daily activities designed to unify our students and staff across the district to demonstrate their support and commitment to decrease violence and drug use in the community.
The National Center for Safe and Supportive Learning environments define school safety as "schools and school-related activities where students are safe from violence, bullying, harassment, and substance abuse." As a community, we continue to strive to foster self-awareness, self-management, responsible decision- making, relationship skills, and social awareness, as our students develop the skills necessary to establish positive and sustainable relationships.
Changes to Halloween Celebrations for 2020
- Our annual Halloween Parade and school activities will not take place this year. These changes have been made to allow us to ensure that our social distancing guidelines are maintained.
- Please refrain from sending any special snacks, food items, and/or goodie bags with Halloween treats in with your child for distribution. Due to hand to hand contact along with concerns for students with allergies, we will not be able to have traditional classroom celebrations.
Students are invited to dress in Black and Orange for our Halloween Spirit Days on Tuesday, October 27th and Friday, October 30th.
If you prefer for your child not to participate in classroom Halloween activities, please contact Mrs. Fanning our School Counselor at lfanning@wtps.org or your child’s teachers so other activities can be planned.
Fire Safety
Special thanks to the WT Fire Department and Firefighter Adam Seczech for making this available to all of our families.
