Nursery Rhymes

We all had a great time during our Friendship Party! Also thank you to everyone who sent in hearts show your child's acts of kindness at home. We shared them as a group and posted them on our large hearts in our classroom.

During the next two weeks we will be discussing nursery rhymes. We will focus on the nursery rhymes "Humpty Dumpty", "The Queen of Hearts", "The Itsy Bitsy Spider, "1, 2 Buckle My Shoe", "I'm a Little Teapot", and "Hickory Dickory Doc." As we participate in activities about nursery rhymes we will also focus on rhyming. Do the words sound alike? Rhyming helps children understand language-it's rhythm and the sounds within words.

Have a great two weeks!

Ms. Stephie's Speech Spot

Hello Speech Families! These next two weeks in preschool we will be talking about Nursery Rhymes and Fairy Tales. Nursery Rhymes will include Humpty Dumpty, The Itsy, Bitsy Spider, The Queen of Hearts, and the Three Little Pigs. We will practice rhyming words through matching, hearing, saying, sequencing, patterning, and playing. Activities will include games, art projects, singing and both visual and auditory input. Practice rhyming with your children by reading these stories and poems together each day. We will weave a spider web using yarn and rhyming pictures to encourage cooperative learning. We will also "break" open plastic eggs with objects hidden inside and then take turns finding the matching rhyming word picture. We will match spiders to their webs using rhyming words and sequence the three little pigs. We will also get some oral motor practice to strengthen our mouth muscles for improved speech by blowing pictures of straw, stick and brick houses to see which goes the furthest then graph and tally to practice counting and quantity concepts. Lots of fun activities to look forward to...have fun rhyming and learning about spiders, piggies, queens, and eggs. :-)
