Here is what is happening in the classroom...

Math- The class got their Math Tests back from End of Module 2 today. This week we started adding fractions with uncommon denominators. We will continue with Module 3 next week. There are only 16 lessons in this unit, so we will assess Mid Module 3 before Thanksgiving break.

Science- The class will get their Science Tests back on Monday from the Chemical Magic Unit. The next unit, Web of Life, will begin next week. We will work on this unit for the rest of the calendar year and assess the unit right before Winter Break.

Reading/Writing/Social Studies- We will begin reading about Explorers next week. Our reading and writing unit will align with the Social Studies. In addition to reading about the Explorers, we will do Nonfiction Reading Lessons that go with news articles and nonfiction books that they chose in the Library. Our Writing will be based on the notes we take in Social Studies. At the end of the writing unit, each student will have an essay produced teaching the reader all about Explorers and their journey to America.

Additional Reading- We are reading the novel, Bridge to Terabithia, in class. After every chapter we work on a different reading comprehension skill.

Veteran's Day Program

Dear Parents,

The fifth grade is preparing a Veterans Day Program on Wednesday, November 7, 2018. We’ve been busy learning patriotic songs and practicing our speaking parts. On Tuesday, November 6th, we will have our dress rehearsal. We would like the students to wear a white collared shirt, and dark pants or skirts on Tuesday.

The dress rehearsal is after lunch. The students can change their clothes after lunch, before the rehearsal if they’d like. Boy Scouts presenting colors will be in uniform.

We’d like to invite Veterans to join us on stage for the assembly. If you have a family member that is a veteran and would like to join us, please contact your child’s teacher.

Our assembly is on Wednesday, November 7th at 8:45.

Thank you for your support,

Fifth Grade Teachers
