Message from HCS Superintendent
Recent state assessment results show Henderson County Schools’ students are above the state average in key areas of the assessment. We are very pleased and proud of our teachers, principals, staff, and students. Henderson County Schools continues to provide extraordinary education, and this is certainly reflected in our recent state assessment data.
Whereas our schools and community are accustomed to terms such as ‘Distinguished’ or ‘Proficient,’ the term ‘Other’ during this transition year does not seem to fully capture the success of our schools. For instance, our middle school math scores are ranked 8th in the state putting our middle schools in the top 5%. Additionally, our elementary math scores ranked 16th in the state. Our elementary schools were ranked 35th in reading scores and our middle schools were ranked 44th.
We will continue to excel as a national innovative leader and we are committed to building better graduates in Henderson County Schools.

HENDERSON COUNTY SCHOOLS ENDORSES KENTUCKY SAFE SCHOOLS WEEK
Kentucky Safe Schools Week is set for October 21–27, 2018. This year's theme is “BE INCREDIBLE, Reveal Your SUPERhero!” Henderson County Schools and Kentucky Center for School Safety stands on the belief that everybody should enjoy school equally and be treated with respect. Community members, educators, students and parents are encouraged to get involved during Kentucky Safe Schools Week.
The Kentucky Center for School Safety offers to partner with schools and provide a “free” online reporting tool, the S.T.O.P.! TIPLINE. The tip line encourages students, parents or community members, who know of an unsafe situation in school, to anonymously pass on that information to school personnel by using a digital format. Check it out at www.kycss.org/stop/resources.php
As quoted from the Disney “Incredibles 2” movie “It’s time to make some wrong things right, help us bring Supers back into the sunlight!” This year’s campaign highlights the word SUPER and the qualities necessary to bring "Supers" into the sunlight!

U.S. Department of Education Announces Spottsville Elementary School as a 2018 National Blue Ribbon School
Spottsville Elementary School in Henderson County has been designated an Exemplary High Performing Schools National Blue Ribbon School for 2018
U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos today recognized 349 schools as National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2018. The recognition is based on a school’s overall academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups.
“I'm pleased to celebrate with you as your school is named a National Blue Ribbon School,” said U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos in a video message to the honorees. “We recognize and honor your important work in preparing students for successful careers and meaningful lives. Congratulations on your students' accomplishments and for your extraordinary commitment to meeting their unique needs.”
The coveted National Blue Ribbon Schools award affirms the hard work of educators, families and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging and engaging content.
Now in its 36th year, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has bestowed recognition on more than 8,800 schools. On November 7-8, the Secretary and the Department of Education will celebrate with 300 public and 49 private school honorees at an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C.
All schools are honored in one of two performance categories, based on all student scores, subgroup student scores and graduation rates:
· Exemplary High Performing Schools are among their state’s highest performing schools as measured by state assessments or nationally normed tests.
· Exemplary Achievement Gap Closing Schools are among their state’s highest performing schools in closing achievement gaps between a school’s student groups and all students over the past five years.
“We are extremely proud of Spottsville Elementary School for receiving this prestigious recognition. Only exemplary schools across the nation are recognized for this award. The students, staff, and Spottsville community have placed education at a high value of importance and this is certainly reflected with a Blue Ribbon School,” noted Marganna Stanley, Superintendent of Henderson County Schools.
Investing in Excellence-LED Lighting
Our maintenance department initiated and completed an energy savings project in many of our schools and buildings. Replacing the old lighting to LED in gymnasiums, lobbies, cafeterias, hallways, and classrooms. This investment provided HCS with a $70,000 savings in utility bills within the first 7 months.
