Walk Throughs: Student Engagement (3C)
Highlights:
* Teachers using questioning to effectively connect previous lessons to the current lesson
* Students asking each other to explain their thinking
* Scaffolded instruction for how to analyze documents
* R5 reading protocol so practiced that the teacher simply keeps time and names the next step while providing feedback to individual students
* Hands-on simulations
* Differentiated guided-reading instruction!!! (HOLY COW! I am SO PROUD that this is happening at BMS!!!)
Reminders:
* Research shows that the first and last 10 minutes of class are optimal learning times for adolescent brains. Engage students with a warm-up (as soon as they walk into the room) and closure each day.
* Students should be working harder than you are during the class period. Consider ways you can step into the role of facilitator.
* Pre-assessment! We only have students for such a brief period of time. Do not waste that time teaching things they already know.
We will continue to focus on student engagement for the week of October 15-19th.
