How to Dig Deeper with Universal Design for Learning
Options for Design and Deliver Book Study
Design and Deliver by Loui Lord Nelson is a great book to further your understanding of Universal Design for Learning. If you are interested in participating in a book study, HIAT has created a study guide that could be used to structure your work.
Face to Face Book Study
Enjoy a monthly face to face interaction with colleagues as you choose chapters to further your understanding of the concepts. Face to face meetings could be 1 or 1 1/2 hours per month.
Online Book Study
Participants can meet and discuss in a virtual space on the UDL in MCPS NING website. You can read a chapter first, and then add to the threaded discussion on your own time each month.
Individual Book Study
This study guide can be used as a map for self study of the UDL concepts. Deepen your own understanding through reading, practice, and reflection.
Design and Deliver Book Study Guide
Talk to members of your UDL PLC to decide which format choice your group would like to pick for the book study. It will probably depend on logistics, time, and preferences. The HIAT book study guide is available upon request.
HIAT Team
HIAT is a collaborative team that applies the principles of Universal Design for Learning to support school teams to meet the needs of all students. Their mission is to provide training and consultation to build the capacity of classroom environments to incorporate technology options for all students.
