Holiday Message from Superintendent of Schools

Dear Cheltenham School District Community,

Every time we celebrate a holiday, we have a chance to take stock of all the wonderful gifts in our lives. As I visit schools, participate in community activities, and listen to the committed voices of community members, I can’t help but be inspired by all of the gifts in our district. This season students packaged hundreds of socks for the needy. Music concerts delight families and friends. Staff members collected toys and gently used clothing for neighbors in need. Volunteers manned a basketball tournament to raise funds for cancer prevention. Food service staff members prepared special meals throughout the district. Our facilities team kept our spaces clean and ensured warm and safe environments for all of us. I could go on and on. This is a beautiful time of year to hold our community close and revel in the snow, the lights, and the pleasures of being with one another.

My holiday wish for you is the enjoyment of simple activities: home baked cookies, favorite movies, and time with those we love. Thank you for your commitment to our schools and to our community’s children.

Dr. Natalie Thomas

SDCT STORY OF THE WEEK

Cheltenahm High School Creekside Co-Op Work Experience
Fourteen Cheltenham High School students are getting a taste for grocery store career options through a job skill program that started this year. Initiated by Cheltenham High School Transitional Coordinator, Gus Ekhardt, the Creekside Co-Op Work Experience program is designed to build real world skills while enhancing diverse social opportunities. The five-day a week, transitional, skill-building opportunity is part of the District’s special education program. Overseen by a professional from the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit, students interact with customers, learn specific elements of the grocery store environment and develop job acquisition skills. Whether stocking produce, bagging items at the checkout counter or prepping prepared food items in the kitchen, the Cheltenham High School Work Experience students have become valued and much-loved members of the Creekside Co-Op family.
