Lincoln Montessori School
PARENT NEWSLETTER - February 2022
Hello Montessori Parents:
This month I've decided to include Frequently Asked Questions and Responses:
Why doesn't the school open the doors before 7:50 in the elementary schools?
Our staff is on duty at 7:45, we open the doors at 7:50 once our staff is in place and ready to supervise the students appropriately; this is the same for all public elementary schools in the district. If you need to drop off before 7:50 the YMCA offers before and after school care in the gym - you can contact the YMCA for more information if you're interested.
How do I find out about my child's progress?
Please contact your child's teacher at any time if you have questions.
Look over your child's work and ask questions about what they're learning in school.
Call the office and sign up for Infinite Campus so you can monitor your child's grades online.
Do 4th grade Montessori students transition well to the Middle School which is a more traditional setting?
MOST of the students transition fine to the Middle School. I've had discussions with their principal and school counselors about these concerns and they say - "Don't worry, it takes a couple weeks, but they figure it out very quick." We talk to our 3rd and 4th grade students about the transition and what is different about a traditional setting and the Middle Schoolers even make a video for us to watch to help with the transition.
How do I learn more about Montessori and basic school policies?
I currently offer introductory classes for our new kindergarten parents. We talk about the differences between Montessori and traditional schools. You can also follow our Facebook page to see pictures of what our day looks like, check out our school website to learn more, read the monthly newsletter, and watch for SeeSaw posts from your students. As far as school policies make sure to check out our district website, student handbooks, and Board of Education minutes from monthly meetings.
Do the students have enough time to eat their lunch?
We schedule 20 minutes for lunch, however, some days it gets cut short due to the time it takes to get through the line. When it's time for dismissal we tell the students that if they're done they can line up and those that aren't done eating have time to finish. We implement a three minute quiet time for them to focus on eating instead of being distracted while talking. Students that stay to finish eating are asked to finish up after ten additional minutes.
We have fun events coming up this semester, please check out the PAB calendar below so you can join us.
Please reach out to me if you have any questions or would like to visit about your child's education.

What is PBIS?
The Power of Positive Feedback:
At Montessori, we acknowledge positive behavior when we see it. We know that when we give specific positive feedback to students, it greatly increases the likelihood that the behavior will be repeated. In fact, you can improve behavior by 80% just by pointing out what someone is doing correctly. Now that's powerful! To shape behavior we connect the specific behavior to the expectation.
We are creating a positive school climate when students are recognized for doing the right thing. PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) encourages that we try to acknowledge positive behaviors four times more often than correcting inappropriate behavior.
