Mrs. Johnson's Journaling
Parents, please make sure that you have your car rider tag when coming to pick up your child in the car rider line. This is an important safety feature we have in place to make sure the right people are picking up your child. The number on your tag is connected to your student as well and is the way we communicate that your student is ready to be picked up. To help keep all students safe and for our traffic to flow without slow downs, anyone picking up a child needs to have their tag to go through the car rider line. If you do not have a tag, it has become lost, or it has broken, please come by the office to get a new tag or let your child's teacher or the office know to send a new one home with your student. Make sure after you have asked for a new tag that you check your child's backpack and folder to secure the new tag and put it in your car for pick up times. Also, if you need multiple tags, please let the office know and we will gladly make extra tags for you at no cost. If you come to the car rider line without a tag, we will be asking you to come to the office to check out your child. Pictures of tags will not be accepted, so that we can ensure the safety of our students.
This week we had 83 students grow one level in Lexia Core 5! We are so proud of all the growth our students are making. A few students even grew 2 levels this week!
As always, we are here to help! Please contact us at (479)750-8760 or email us at bayyariinfo@sdale.org.

Prevention & Control of Lice
Head lice are spread most commonly by direct head-to-head (hair-to-hair) contact. However, much less frequently they are spread by sharing clothing or belongings onto which lice have crawled or nits attached to shed hairs may have fallen. The risk of getting infested by a louse that has fallen onto a carpet or furniture is very small. Head lice survive less than 1–2 days if they fall off a person and cannot feed; nits cannot hatch and usually die within a week if they are not kept at the same temperature as that found close to the scalp.
The following are steps that can be taken to help prevent and control the spread of head lice:
- Avoid head-to-head (hair-to-hair) contact during play and other activities at home, school, and elsewhere (sports activities, playground, slumber parties, camp).
- Do not share clothing such as hats, scarves, coats, sports uniforms, hair ribbons, or barrettes.
- Do not share combs, brushes, or towels. Disinfest combs and brushes used by an infested person by soaking them in hot water (at least 130°F) for 5–10 minutes.
- Do not lie on beds, couches, pillows, carpets, or stuffed animals that have recently been in contact with an infested person.
- Machine wash and dry clothing, bed linens, and other items that an infested person wore or used during the 2 days before treatment using the hot water (130°F) laundry cycle and the high heat drying cycle. Clothing and items that are not washable can be dry-cleaned OR sealed in a plastic bag and stored for 2 weeks.
- Vacuum the floor and furniture, particularly where the infested person sat or lay. However, spending much time and money on housecleaning activities is not necessary to avoid reinfestation by lice or nits that may have fallen off the head or crawled onto furniture or clothing.
- Do not use fumigant sprays or fogs; they are not necessary to control head lice and can be toxic if inhaled or absorbed through the skin.
To help control a head lice outbreak in a community, school, or camp, children can be taught to avoid activities that may spread head lice.
- No comparta peines, cepillos o toallas.
Library Update
The library staff are excited to announce that we have partnered with Book Depot to host a two-week online book fair fundraiser through their retail website, Book Outlet, between Oct 20, 2020 and Nov 3, 2020. Book Outlet is an online retailer that offers thousands of new books for up to 90% off.
How the online book fair works:
· 20% of all purchases made during the online book fair will go back to the library in cash rewards.
· A unique book fair link will be circulated to you the day before the book fair begins to use throughout the fundraiser. Emphasize to your families to shop on Book Outlet using that link, so 20% cash rewards get attributed to Bayyari Elementary.
· After the book fair ends, over the following six months, 5% of new Book Outlet purchases will also go back to Bayyari Elementary in cash rewards.
This book fair’s success relies on how well we promote it, so let’s do our best to share it with everyone we know!

Helping Your Child with Blended Learning From Home
I read an article about distance learning. While reading this article, I thought about all the parents out there that are struggling to help their children with blended learning. This article highlighted 8 tips that can really help us support our children. I found this article at www.understood.org/en/school.
1. Create a space just for learning.
2. Create a learning schedule and stick to it.
3. Make sure that distractions are limited.
4. Give your child a planner and encourage color coding.
5. Make sure to give your child a form of recess.
6. Make sure your child has the technology and supplies they need to be successful.
7. Keep in close communication with your child’s teacher.
8. If your child is struggling, work with them finding ways to help them be more successful.
I found all of these suggestions to be extremely helpful to a parent. Remember, we are here to support you and your student. Our goal is to continue providing the best education possible even through a pandemic.
