Dear Families,

What a great start to the 2022-23 school year! It has been exciting to see new faces, along with many familiar ones, to kick off this fall semester. It is also great to see so many of our fall activities going strong...football, cross country volleyball, marching band and so much more! Be sure to ask your student what they have enjoyed most about the start of the year.

PowerSchool Parent Portal Update

PowerSchool is now accessible for all parents and students to view attendance, announcements, account balances, and grades (for MS and HS students). To access PowerSchool, please go to: https://pshomer.vbisd.org

Student Login:

Students will login with their school username and password that was assigned to them.

Parent Login:

Parent access id/password are both the student's student ID number. This is your child's 2050 number. Your student should know this, or you can contact your student's building office.

PowerSchool App

We recommend you creating your online account using a computer first. Once created, you can download the app on your phone. If you download the PowerSchool App, please use the code SGJP.

COVID Notifications

Although we have started a new school year the reality of COVID has not completely gone away. The Calhoun County Public Health Department (CCPHD) guidelines state that a COVID positive person must be isolated for 5 days. After the 5 days they may return to school with a mask on days 6 through 10. A more in-depth look at the guidelines can be found at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/your-health/isolation.html. Contact tracing is no longer required by the CCPHD.

If you do test positive we ask that you share the information, along with a picture of the test results labeled with name and date, with Nurse Lebron so the positive case can be added to the CCPHD database. The CCPHD will be monitoring school districts to ensure there are no breakouts within a district. This is in line with other communicable diseases the CCPHD monitors.

Although breakfast will continue to be free for all students during the 2022-23 school year, regardless of financial status, it is still very important that all families complete the 2022-23 free and reduced meal application for lunches. There is a website for accessing the online application: https://homer.familyportal.cloud/

  • Homecoming - Friday, September 30
  • Parent Teacher Conferences - Tuesday, October 11 & Thursday, October 13, 3-7 p.m.
  • Thanksgiving Break - 1/2 Day November 23 11:00 dismal. No school November 24 - November 25
  • Christmas Break - December 23 - January 8
  • Mid-Winter Break - February 17 - February 20
  • Spring Break - March 24 - April 2

Join Us for a Special Parent Program on September 22nd!

Dr. Stephanie Grant is returning to Homer Community Schools on Thursday, Sept 22nd for another engaging evening of information and tips to help our kids and families!

Dr. Grant is a Developmental Psychologist (as well as a foster and adoptive mom) who speaks from both her head and her heart on matters related to child development. In the past, she has led us through understanding how trauma impacts child development and has trained our staff in trauma-informed classroom practices. During this visit, she will be offering brain-based insights and practical strategies for parents/caregivers to help children navigate their reactions during stress and/or emotional times. This program will address the development and needs for children of all ages.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS: Thursday, September 22 from 6:30-7:30pm in the Homer Community Schools cafeteria. A dinner will be provided at 6pm, for anyone interested in eating beforehand. Dr. Grant will engage in a question and answer time immediately following her speaking. The dinner and event are both FREE!

Door prizes for the event include gas and Nagel's gift cards, both generously donated by Folk Oil and Nagel's Meat Processing. All individuals who pre-register at the link below will receive an extra entry for the drawings.

This event is funded by a 31N12 grant, with the support of the Homer Parent Involvement Committee.
