A Principal's Perspective
In the last Mustang Message I mentioned that Kathryn and I attended a leadership conference at Cypress Fairbanks ISD. Jimmy Casas, author of Culturize: Every Student. Every Day. Whatever It Takes., spoke at the conference about schools across the country. In his workshop, I learned a new word, awesomizers. Which Casas calls effective teachers teaching in the classroom. In his book he challenges us to "Eradicate Average! CULTURIZE Your School. Average schools don't inspire greatness--and greatness is what our world needs if we are going to produce world-changing learners." He also challenged that in the "best schools you can't tell if it is August, January or March." He asked, "How do we as educators carry the banner for the profession?"
Greens Prairie Elementary... Average? I think not! Are we producing world-changing learners? Yes! Do we inspire greatness in our students? Our colleagues? As a GP staff member, I would describe each and every one of you as AWESOMIZERS! We do indeed carry the banner for our profession as an example of excellence each and every day! Yes, Each Life...Each Day...Each Hour!
