Author Visits

Several authors are visiting Minnie Howard Library this year. Author visits provide students with an opportunity to gain specific information about books and make connections with the stories and characters. Students gain invaluable information and have a wonderful time with authors they meet.

Ms. Gross participated in January 's Technology Cohort w/ TIS leaders , (Marsh, Everson, Koren). The technology team cohort was a great offering for teachers during their planning time. The TIS cohort team provided creation and curation digital tool kits on Google Drive. We explored digital and web 2.0 tools and added our own in the tool kits.
I evaluated my integration of technology using the SAMR model.
This cohort highlighted more appropriate and effective resources that can be used in our library. The cohort inspired: a creation of "MH Symbaloo" on our big screen monitor.
MH Titans are adding tiles to the Symbaloo. Students are also engaged in learning and evaluating available apps on their tablets and how they are using them on our collaborative bulletin board in the library.

Letters About Literature

Approximately twelve students entered the Letters About Literature Annual Writing Contest. The contest is is sponsored by the Library of Congress . Students are asked to read a book, poem or speech and write to that author (living or dead) about how the book affected them personally. A display was set up in the library and students submitted their entry forms and letters. Letters are judged on state and national levels. State winners are selected in mid-March.

MH Titans donated food in lieu of paying late book fee fines.
The food was delivered in baskets to needy families in the community.
