Macleans Primary School Community
Hi Everyone
I trust we all had a great two week break and we are all ready to go for Term 3 2022! Teachers have been busy preparing the learning and Curriculum which will make for some terrific and engaging learning this term.
You may have been reading about the Ministry of Education and their views on masks in schools. I updated everyone yesterday following the Board Meeting on Monday. Please read more below.
Later this week there is a parent webinar on children's well-being. More details below. Also later in the term we have two fundraisers. One of the fundraisers is the PTA's cookie dough fundraiser raising funds for the school's pool heating. The other fundraiser is the Macleans Primary annual 'a-thon' (spelling) and the funds raised from this will go towards expanding and developing the STEAM programme. More details on the cookie dough and 'a-thon' soon.
An extra special welcome to our new year 1 students and their families joining us this term. We look forward to getting to know you!
Also note that a link I sent out over the weekend for the Health Survey may not have worked for you. I have updated the link HERE (and below) and ask that you please complete the survey if you have not done so already.
Please enjoy the rest of this newsletter and don't forget to check out your emails, class seesaw notices, Macleans Primary Facebook page and website for regular updates on all the news and events going on.
Nga Mihi.

Hauora/Well-Being: Parent Zoom TOMORROW (From The Resilience Project)
The Resilience Project (TRP) invites all Macleans Primary School parents and caregivers to a zoom meeting. The TRP is grateful to work with schools and communities to support youth mental health and wellbeing. Through the school curriculum, we share the benefits of Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness, and easy ways our children can practise these in everyday life. There will be an overview of the programme, how it works in schools and some ideas of how to support that work at home. We will also look at data collected from Macleans Primary students with regards to device use and the importance of sleep for learning and development. We share evidence based, positive, practical, mental health strategies with the whole school community – teachers, students, parents and carers – to support the implementation of wellbeing curriculum to build resilience, happiness, and drive sustainable behaviour change.

Mask Wearing In Schools (Same Message That Went Home Yesterday - 26 July)
At Monday's Board of Trustees meeting, the Board decided that we will continue to support the Ministry of Education's (MoE) views that mask wearing in schools is 'highly & strongly recommended' for all teachers/adults in schools and students from Y4 and above. The Board reminds the Macleans Primary School community that like the MoE/Government we are NOT requiring masks to be worn yet. We will be reviewing mask wearing as needed and required. If a mandate on mask wearing comes in from the Government and/or MoE then we will of course comply. The Board also reminds us all to please keep your child/children home if they are sick. In the meantime, if you want your child to wear a mask and you have none at home, we have enough masks available for all students. For more information on masks and mask wearing go to the Covid-19 mask wearing site HERE
