Whatzit?!?!?

Whatzit?!? Is it a solid or a liquid? That's the question that the class had to answer for me. Whatzit takes on properties of both a solid and liquid depending on how your touch it. This was one of our last experiments in our Matter unit. Next week they will be having BizTown where they will vote for mayor and receive their BizTown job!

Historical Fiction

Next week the class will be editing and revising their rough draft of their historical fiction pieces. My writing conferences with students are focusing on create complete sentences, separating run-on sentences, correctly punctuating dialogue, and 'showing not telling'.

Our writing celebration will take place on Monday, March 23rd. Students will be reading their classmates' writing pieces. Please feel free to bring in a treat with your child.

Ask you child how their story is coming. Students will be publishing their stories on a Google Site that I will share with parents after the writing celebration.

Pi Day!

This Saturday it will be 3/14/15. These are the first five digits of pi, 3.1415! After reading Circumference and the Dragon of Pi during math, the class participated in pi activities: finding the circumference of a circle, understanding how to find pi, making bracelets, eating pie, and making pi fortune tellers. Although this was a quick, one day lesson, students will be exposed to the concept of pi and circumference as we continue to study the perimeter of figures.

Thank you to the Koike family that brought in pies for the class to enjoy as they explored the concept of pi.
