News from Mrs. Mankin

Dear Bulldog Families,

We hope that your student had a smooth transition back to school in our new virtual learning format. Teaching teams continue to collaborate daily regarding successes and challenges as well as effective strategies that have occurred as a result of our work. Please be sure to communicate with your student’s teacher if you have any questions or need academic and/or social emotional support for your student.

As we continue to grow into our 100% virtual learning schedule, we are also planning for the phase 2, 50/50 model. Dr. Bourff shared the information below in Friday’s message. We should receive updated news this Friday regarding a possible move to phase 2 after Labor Day. Please be sure to closely review any school emails this week and view Dr. Bourff's video for this important update.

Phase II Highlights

  • For a period of no less than four-weeks, students who select to return to school will do so on a 50/50 schedule (50% on-site and 50% virtual).

  • Students districtwide will be divided alphabetically by last name and assigned a schedule to attend school.

  • Red Group: A-K and Blue Group: L-Z
  • Families will be scheduled to attend school on the same day regardless of their grade level or building.

  • A two-week notice will be given prior to transitioning to Phase III based on key data (see Operational Metrics for additional details).

As always, thank you for partnering with us in education.

Snack Attack Program

New Britton Elementary is pleased to announce the Snack Attack program for those students in need. This program, supported by the Fishers Youth Assistance Program, is designed to provide students a little extra nourishment for the weekend until they can receive a hot meal at school on Monday. This program will start once we get back to the building after Labor Day.

Here's how the program works. Your student will pick up a small sack of food to be taken home over the weekend. The sack is filled with individually wrapped snacks such as granola bars, fruit cups, pop tarts, peanut butter/crackers, Goldfish crackers, etc. The type of snacks will vary each week. Please let us know if your child has a peanut allergy as he/she will receive a special bag of peanut-free snacks.

There is no cost to you or the school. If you are interested in having your student participate in FYAP's Snack Attack or have questions, please contact Mrs. Sherri Leiner, NBE School Counselor at sleiner@hse.k12.in.us or (317) 594-4130 ext. 2087.

Virtual Learning (Phase 1) - Speech and Hearing Screening Procedures:

Virtual Learning (Phase 1) - Speech and Hearing Screening Procedures:

At the start of the year, our school-based Speech Language Pathologists (SLPs) usually conduct hearing screenings for our K, 1, 4, 7, 10 students and a universal speech screening for our K, 1, 2 students. Due to the need to provide virtual learning in phase 1 of the Four-Phase Reopening Plan for the 2020-2021 year, the SLPs will be waiting to complete our hearing screenings until we have more students learning in person (e.g., phase 2 or 3). In addition, we will only be conducting speech (articulation) screenings on a parent/teacher request basis. Please reach out to your school’s Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) if you would like to request a speech screening via virtual Zoom appointment. These procedures are in an effort to keep everyone safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. Thanks for your understanding and flexibility.
