The Italian Flag Now I don't have a lot on the flag. for each of the colors I believe there is a different meaning. But I found so many different versions I couldn't narrow it down. | Italian Wolf or the Appenine Wolf "The national animal of Italy is the Italian Wolf. It is from the family of the Grey Wolf and is basically nocturnal hunter by nature. This wolf holds a key position in the culture of Italy. They are said to be the protectors. There is a myth by the name of Romulus and Remus who are considered as the founders of Italy. They were deserted by their family and were raised by a she-wolf." -From the website Blurtit (http://society-politics.blurtit.com/669042/what-is-italys-national-animal) | Italian Emblem "The emblem comprises a white five-pointed star, with a thin red border, superimposed upon a five-spoked cogwheel, standing between an olive branch to the dexter side and an oak branch to the sinister side; the branches are in turn bound together by a red ribbon with the inscription REPVBBLICA ITALIANA. The emblem is used extensively by the Italian government. The armorial bearings of the House of Savoy, blazoned gules a cross argent, were previously in use by the former Kingdom of Italy; the supporters, on either side a lion rampant Or, were replaced with fasci littori (literally bundles of the lictors) during the fascist era".(Got this from Wikipedia) |
