Theme For Term #1

CMS Families:

It was so nice to have all of our students back at school this week. It seemed as though we didn't miss a beat and the natural reconnection went very smoothly. So many happy faces and smiles were witnessed. As a leader, I was so proud of our staff and students for making this return seem so simple but yet so natural.

As we head into week #2, we will begin to slowly gain momentum. As we do this, we will monitor student needs and be creative with our student support systems. Our overall focus is to ensure the very best experiences for every student that enters our school. This may seem complex, but the reality is, if we focus on being highly efficient with our systems of practice, it will all work out nicely. As a Learning Community, this is exactly what we strive to do each day.

We have a school-based theme for each term. Our first theme will be COURAGE. You will see that we will continually build upon this theme through multiple platforms. Make sure you follow us on social media to see additional ways we market this to our student body and within our school culture.

Well, that's all for now. Next week will be very exciting! Enjoy your long weekend and please reach out with any questions or concerns.

Yours in education,,

Dean W. Packard - Principal

Message From Athletic Director Scanlon

Welcome back for what should be a great year for Charlton Middle School students and staff. We are excited to announce the opening of registration for CMS Athletics in the Fall 2021 season. Sign ups will be OPEN Thu. 9/2 and will CLOSE next Fri. 9/10 - once tryouts begin the week of September 13th, registrations will not be accepted.

This Fall, we will be offering Boys and Girls Soccer to students in Grades 7 and 8, and Cross Country to students in Grades 5 through 8. Field Hockey has been added for students in Grades 6 through 8, but will depend on total registration numbers. Once registrations close, coaches will begin reaching out to coordinate tryout/practice times and expectations, and provide schedules.

Parents/Caregivers and students should go to the following link to register as soon as possible and submit a physical exam signed and dated by a healthcare practitioner within the last 13 months. Registrations MUST be completed in order to be eligible for tryouts/participation. All physical exams can be dropped off at CMS for School Nurse Zappulla, faxed, or emailed to Nurse Zappulla ( with the subject line: "CMS Athletics Physical".

*Per DESE and DCRSD policies, masks will be required by all individuals at all times while indoors, and while traveling on a school bus to practices and/or away contests until at least October 1st, regardless of vaccination status.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me directly. Cannot WAIT to see our middle level student-athletes back out competing after almost TWO years away from Fall sports!

Breakfast & Lunches:

Breakfast is available to all students in the morning. It is FREE and I encourage students to take advantage of this. Upon arrival to school, students can go directly to the cafeteria - We will be waiting for them.

Lunches are FREE as well. We encourage students to take advantage of this, too. Our cafeteria staff is amazing and they would love to see you!

Transportation Drop-off & Pick-Up

We appreciate your patience during the first few days of school.

Drop-Off Procedures

The school day officially starts at 7:40 a.m. We will begin to allow students into the building at 7:25 a.m. Students will go directly to these two locations:

5th-6th - Auditorium

7th & 8th - Cafeteria

Students will be dismissed from these locations at 7:40 a.m. and will report directly to homeroom. During the first week, 5th and 6th graders will be guided to their homerooms by their teachers.

Parents who are transporting students should come in the long driveway and circle down by the fields and return back up toward the school. All students will enter through the main front doors.

Pick-Up Procedures:

The school day ends at 2:10 p.m. Parents and caregivers who are picking up, will follow the same process as in the morning. Come in the long driveway and circle down by the fields and finish up by the school. We will begin the pick-up process immediately after the busses depart.
