Principal's Message
Wildcats and Families,
This is the last edition of the GROWL newsletter for the 2020-2021 school year. We hope everyone enjoys a safe and fun-filled summer break.
To our soon-to-be Wildcats (incoming 9th-grade students) and families, welcome to DHS! During the school year, we communicate with students and families through a variety of methods. We use:
Skyward emailed messages,
our weekly newsletter (The GROWL),
websites (DHS and WildcatNation), and
the district-provided text alert system.
Many of our students enrolled in Honor and Advanced Placement (AP) courses in the fall have summer assignments. Information about the assignments can be found on our website, here.
Online registration/enrollment is now available through Skyward. We would appreciate the completion of online registration/enrollment before Wednesday, July 28th, when in-person student enrollment begins. Having this step completed reduces your wait time at Student Enrollment.
Student Enrollment for the 2021-2022 school year takes place Wednesday, July 28th through Friday, July 30th. Below are the Enrollment days/times.
Wednesday, July 28th, 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM
Thursday, July 29th, 1:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Friday, July 30th, 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Important activities that will take place during enrollment include:
confirming online enrollment and the payment of fees,
arranging bus transportation,
set-up/pay student nutrition,
receive the 2020-2021 yearbook,
have a picture taken for the yearbook (& Senior Composite) and receive a Student ID,
receive a draft copy of your semester 1 schedule, and
attain a parking permit
Thursday, August 12th is Wildcat Kick-off which is the first (half-day) for 9th-grade students. We will also host an Open House for our 9th-grade students and parents from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM that evening. This will provide a final opportunity for students and parents to walk the building before the first full day of school. More information to come.
We will host our annual Parent Information Night on Thursday, August 19th. We will begin in the Main Gymnasium at 6:00 pm. We hope to see you during this event.
The De Soto High School Main Office summer hours are Monday - Thursday, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM through June 10. The offices will reopen on July 26th. Once the office reopens July 26th, it will be open Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM. Please park and enter the building through the south main entrance.
Again, we hope everyone enjoys the summer break, and we look forward to August and the beginning of the 2021-2022 school year.
Kind Regards,
Sam Ruff

VACCINATIONS
The State of Kansas requires incoming 11th graders to have one Meningococcal vaccine on or after their 16th birthday.
- Your shot record might say MCV, MCV4, MCV40, MCV4P, Menveo or Menactra or just meningococcal. All of these meet the requirement.
If your student has already had these vaccinations, please email Anne Lightcap, BSN, RN the shot record (mfarverlightcap@usd232.org). If you have already submitted a shot record containing this vaccine, you do not need to send it again. How can you check? From your desktop (it will NOT work on your phone), go to Skyward, then choose:
Health Info (tab on the left side) Display Options Show Vaccinations
SPORTS PHYSICALS
Sports physicals completed on or after May 1, 2021 are valid for the 2021-2022 school year. If your student is going to participate in a sport next year, you must have a current physical on file. The physical form is attached to this email and may also be found at:
http://www.kshsaa.org/Public/PDF/FORM-PPE.pdf
If you already have a completed sports physical, your student may bring it to the main office or email it to me at mfarverlightcap@usd232.org
Please contact me if you have any questions.
