LPS Elementary Campus

May 1st

Calendar will continue through May 28th

Per the Commissioner of Education, LPS will continue instruction based on our adopted calendar so the last day of school will still be May 28th.

We will also still honor the scheduled days off: May 22nd and 25th for a long Memorial Day weekend. I am linking the calendar here for your convenience. LPS 2019-2020 School Calendar

We will have an end of the year pick-up and Chromebook return day. Stay tuned for more information on when and how.

A Day of Play - virtual Field Day on May 15th

To make up for missing our Field Day this year, we have decided to have a virtual Field Day. We are calling it the Day of Play and it will be on Friday, May 15th! Coach Reynolds will be sending out ideas for games and activities to get your student up and active that day. There will be no instructional “must-do’s” on this day.

Leadership Prep School is partnering with the Children’s Miracle Network Foundation by participating in their “Extra Life” program. Families can share the news about its good works and help raise money for our local Children’s Hospital by creating an online fundraising platform and asking family and friends to make a donation and/or sponsor your student during our Day of Play.

We usually have prizes on Field Day so we will be offering prizes for the Day of Play as well.

Watch for a separate email next week with more details and how to register.

Wellness Resources

Region 10, our local educational service center, has a collection of wellness resources providing information, tips and activities that can be used at home and more to support parents, caregivers, children and educators during the COVID-19 pandemic. See the resources at this website.

Chromebook Issues or Request?

If you have any need for Tech support for the chrome books that have been provided or if you now need a chrome book, please contact your student's teacher. For a repair, the teacher will need:

  • student name
  • Chrome Book Cart and device number, AKA Secondary Cart 6-2.19 (which is on a sticker on the back of the checked out Chromebook)
  • what the issue is with the device, and
  • what type of charger the it has (USB-C, ASUS, or HP BlueTip).

The teacher can then request that a new Chromebook is available for check out. Chromebook pick up will be on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 11:00-12:00 weekly at the SECONDARY CAMPUS OFFICE. It will only be available once the request is put in by the teacher. Please do not just show up to campus.

Ascender - Parent Portal

A letter explaining how to log in to our new parent portal called ASCENDER was mailed out in the 4th nine weeks progress reports. In this system, you can check the data you have on file with LPS including addresses, vaccinations, etc.; and where you can check on attendance and grades (grades for 2-4 only).

If you have already created a parent portal account with us, then you should just have to use the new link but your username and password will be the same.

If you have never created a parent portal account with us, then please go to the link and create an account. Then you will use the portal ID from the letter to link your student to that account. Note: each student has a unique portal ID in their letter.

Formal Virtual Learning Plan

So we wanted to put our grading guidelines for the 4th nine weeks in writing for you so there will be no confusion. You can read the entire document here, but here are the biggest highlights:

  • All grades will be weighted with the weights previously used by teachers throughout the year.

  • In grades K-1, teachers will continue to use the skills checklist to assess student progress.

  • In grades 2-4, teachers will record at least 1 grade per week for each subject area for a total of at least 9 grades. Students will have the opportunity to redo two of their lowest grades.

  • Content grades in specials will be an E for all students.

  • Conduct grades will be an E for all students unless there is documentation of behavior issues in the online lessons.
