December Newsletter
Blain Elementary School
A Message from Mr. Young
Goodies with Grandparents is scheduled for Friday, December 6 (times are listed below based on grade levels). We ask that all grandparents wishing to attend be registered with the office by Wednesday, December 4. All grandparents will enter the building through the main office and then make their way to the gym. Each guest will be required to sign in to the building and may be asked to show photo identification.
The Blain PTO/Blain Public Library's Gingerbread House Night will occur on Friday, December 13 beginning at 7:00. This is the second year these two organizations have collaborated in bringing this event to our community. I encourage you to add this to your calendar.
Blain's Winter Concert is scheduled for Monday, December 16 at 7:00 PM. Our 4th grade class will be presenting their play and our school's chorus will also be performing. This is always a wonderful event that helps put you in the spirit of the season.
May each of you have a safe, joyous, and peaceful holiday season!
A few reminders:
- As the seasons change and the weather begins to get colder, please have your
child dress appropriately for colder temperatures.
- Please remember to send a note regarding your student’s absence the day
he/she returns to school. Any excuse that has not been received within three days of the student's return to school will be marked as unlawful.
- Blain Elementary’s S.T.A.R. Reading Challenge – Encourage your
student to be reading each evening and remember to sign their reading
calendar.
Mrs. O'Toole's Reading Corner
There’s no better app than your lap!
For many of us, technology is a central part of our lifestyle. It’s fun to play games on our devices, text with friends, and post pictures on social media. There are so many doors that technology opens for children and adults, alike. Videos and virtual field trips allow us to visit and explore places that we may never get to see in person. When we need to know more information, we just ask Siri or Google it. As parents and teachers, we have found educational apps to help boost our child’s math and reading skills. The tricky part is balancing our “screen time” with play and personal interaction and conversation. As we are entering the holiday season and you are starting to think about gifts for your children, don’t forget some of these fun items: board games, books, sleds, snow toys, etc. What a great way to spend an afternoon with your child! Just think of the things he/she may tell you as you talk, laugh, and play!
The following students were caught reading during the month of November: Heath Bidwell, Evan Salazar Cernas, Austin Salazar Cernas, Lauryl Fedder, Adam Noel, Brantley Pierce, and Brayden Smith. Congratulations on earning a free book! I would love to see your child reading. Snap a pic and email it to me at sotoole@westperry.org. I will put your child’s picture on my reading wall and also let him/her choose a FREE book.
