INFORMATION ABOUT TWO NEW WORLD LANGUAGES AWARDS

Dear Parents,

This year, we will be awarding two new world language awards to students. Please read below to see how your student may qualify for these awards:

***************

FIRST AWARD: Biliteracy Program Participation Recognition

All K-5 students currently enrolled in Spanish will be automatically eligible and will receive their certificate of participation during their Spanish class.

***************

SECOND AWARD: Home Language Development Recognition

Promoting 5th grade students who speak a language other than English at home and who practice it consistently will receive this recognition during one of their Flagpole Assembly (Silver Strand) or ACE Assembly (Village) in the month of May.

To earn this award you have two options:

Option 1: Keep a reading log of sources read in the target language- must have reached a total of at least 20 hours of reading and you must complete a brief reflection on page 2 of the Reading log. Submit your reading log to Ms. Rafuls via email at maylen.rafuls@coronadousd.org

OR

Option 2: Parent email to Ms. Rafuls certifying what the student did to maintain and grow the home language. Please click on the Parent Email Link to see guidelines of what the email should say.

How to submit evidence:

***************

These awards are evidence of your student being on the Path to Biliteracy! Once your student reaches high school, they can work to earn the Seal of Biliteracy, a special recognition on their high school diploma.

To learn more about any of these awards, please do not hesitate to contact Ms. Rafuls at maylen.rafuls@coronadousd.org.

Communications

CUSD and Village Communication

We are committed to providing you with pertinent and timely information throughout the year. Please take time to read through this important information and reminders.

Social Media:

Please connect directly with Village Elementary regarding questions and concerns. It is our district protocol/policy that site administrators and school staff DO NOT monitor local Coronado social media sites (ie: Coronado Moms and Dads, Coronado 92118, Coronado Happenings and Crown Talk).
