Dear Moms and Dads,

Please be sure your child has a CLEAN, FRESH, mask everyday. We've been noticing a lot of students wearing masks that are dirty, stained, and/or stretched out so they are no longer staying on their faces properly. Your attention to this matter is greatly appreciated.

Veteran's Day 2020

Under the thoughtful guidance of Mrs. Gonczy in collaboration with the Whitney staff and students, we were able to honor our Veteran's with a drive-thru parade. While we typically do a much more extensive program, we were happy that with Covid restrictions we were still able to show our appreciation for our Veterans. Thank you so much.

Weekend Breakfast Kits

Weekend breakfast kits for in school students will now be offered at no charge in addition to free breakfast and lunches offered Monday through Friday. The meals are free to any child enrolled in the Strongsville City School district in grades K - 12 and there is no pre-qualifying information necessary to participate. The students will have the option to grab a breakfast kit as they exit their classroom at the end of the school day on Friday to take home with them for the weekend. The USDA sponsors this program. This benefit will be available to all in-school students who would like a weekend breakfast kit. For ease of distribution and storage, the meals will be served as a kit containing all of the menu components and for easy transport. Holiday Shoppe Is Coming!

Dear Whitney Families,

This year we are going virtual! That's right, the well loved Holiday Shop is all online this year. Our shop will run from November 30th - December 4th. Details are coming soon so stay tuned!

Meal Boxes Available To Those In Need

The United States Department of Agriculture is partnering with farmers, ranchers, fresh fruit & vegetable growers, food processors and distributors, and non-profit organizations to ensure that all Americans have access to the fresh fruit and wholesome food during the COVID-19 national emergency.


  • FARMERS sell food previously destined for restaurants and bulk purchasers to distributors, preventing waste.
  • DISTRIBUTORS partner with USDA to package family sized boxes with fresh meals and then transport them to non-profits across America.
  • FAMILIES pick up free 40 pound meal boxes from schools, food banks, faith-based organizations, and other non-profits.

Strongsville City Schools have been given the opportunity to take advantage of this awesome opportunity. We will distribute the meal boxes at Strongsville Middle School (9:45 a.m. - 11:45 a.m.) on 11/16, 11/23, 11/30, 12/7 and 12/14. Distribution of the meal boxes will occur at Door E (along the football field/track side of the building / cars must enter on the south side of the building and travel around the entire back of the building, to access Door E).

This meal box program is open to all SCS families. If you would like to receive a meal box, please click HERE to sign up for next Monday's (11/16) distribution. The deadline to submit the form for this upcoming meal box distribution is 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 12th. PLEASE NOTE: YOU MUST FILL OUT A SEPARATE FORM FOR EACH STUDENT IN YOUR FAMILY. There is a limited amount of meal boxes available each week. Families must sign up each week - emails will be sent on each Tuesday prior to the following Monday distribution.

Meal boxes will be placed directly in your trunk so be prepared to open your trunk upon our volunteers request. Volunteers will be wearing masks, sanitizing surfaces and taking necessary safety precautions. Meal box recipients are required to wear facial coverings.

No confirmation/reminder emails will be sent during the week.

* You will have to sign up for each week on a new sign up sheet which will be sent out each Tuesday for the following Monday.

* This meal box program will continue on every Monday through December 14, unless otherwise stated.
* Please be prepared to wait up to thirty minutes when picking up meal boxes, as we are anticipating high levels of interest in this program.

Whitney Elementary PTA is creating a Family and Friends cookbook! We would love all families and staff to share at least one of your favorite recipes with us. All recipes will be published in our cookbook that will be available for sale in 2021. Please see the attached flyer, as well as instructions for entering recipes.

Title I Notification

As a district we receive Title I funds that help to provide additional personnel to assist students in literacy. As a result, you have the right to know about the teaching qualifications of your child’s classroom teacher. These qualifications include:

  • Whether the teacher has met the Ohio teacher licensing criteria for the grade level and subject areas in which the teacher provides your child instruction.

  • Whether the teacher is teaching under emergency or temporary status that waives state licensing requirements.

  • The undergraduate degree major of the teacher and any other graduate degree or certification (such as National Board Certification) held by the teacher and the field of discipline of certification or degree.

  • Whether your child is provided services by instructional paraprofessionals and, if so, their qualifications.

All teaching staff in the Strongsville City Schools are properly licensed for their position(s) with no one teaching under emergency or temporary status. You may access teacher licensing information via the Ohio Department of Education website: http://www.education.ohio.gov. Type “Ohio Department of Education Educator Profile,” in your search bar. Type in the educator ID listed above or the teacher’s first and last name then click “Search Educator.” You may also request degree information by emailing Jennifer Pelko at jpelko@scsmustangs.org.

Covid implications for Learning Framework

You probably are aware of the spike in cases across the state of Ohio, specifically in Cuyahoga County. Each Thursday, the color designation for the counties is released. The following is what this means for schools:

  • If our county is in RED, the Board will be meeting on that Thursday night and determine if we remain in "in person learning" or go to remote. This decision will be announced by the Superintendent on Friday mornings.
  • In the event that our county is moved to PURPLE, we will transition to Remote Learning 2.0 on the following Monday.

Please pay attention to any updates that are communicated over the next few weeks, as there will be key information about our learning plans. Click the Remote 2.0 schedule if we return to Remote Learning
