Comprehension Literacy Program/ Balanced Literacy Program
Transferring Knowledge to Classroom Practice
Balanced reading approach includes: Read Aloud (Modeled Reading) ----> Shared Reading ---> Guided Reading ----> Independent Reading --->Literature Circles ----> Reader's Theatre
Engage students by using Comprehension Strategies: Making Connections, Questioning, Visualizing, Determining Importance, Synthesizing, and Inferring.
Literature Circles is a rich strategy and great for students to share and discuss variety of literature where student conversation is key because the students respond to text using different roles such as Discussion Director, Connector, Summarizer, etc. It encourages students to use learned comprehension strategies.
Literate Learners integrate all 4 roles: Meaning Maker, Code user, Text user and Text analyser simultaneously when they read, write, speak and listen.
