Believe...Growth Mindset for Student Success!
Our School Vision
Knight Vision: To share in the commitment of rigorous and high quality instruction to meet the needs of every child.
Our 2017-2018 school theme “Believe...Growth Mindset for Student Success!” is directly aligned with our continued vision and instructional expectations for Knight: to share in the commitment of rigorous and high quality instruction to meet the needs of every child.
Instructional Focus:
*Implement the AKS (Common Mini-Lessons and Assessments)
*Implement Authentic Literacy (Purposeful Reading, Writing, and Discussion)
*Implement Effective Instruction (Workshop Model/Gradual Release)
Knight Mission: To provide a positive, stimulating, and secure environment that empowers the individual to grow socially, emotionally and intellectually in order to meet the challenges of an ever-changing world.
Knight Belief: We believe all kids can learn…
…and we will establish high standards of learning that we expect all students to achieve. It is our job to create an environment in our classrooms that engages students in academic work that results in a high level of achievement. We are confident that with our support and help, students can master challenging curricula, and we expect them to do so. We are prepared to work collaboratively with colleagues, students and parents to achieve this shared educational purpose (DuFour, 1997a).

COUNSELOR'S CORNER
Michele visits 4th grade classes this week.
On the morning announcements, Michele is highlighting 3rd graders and Kindergarten students in Pam Bamberg's class who are great role models of being ACCEPTING of others.
If you received a note from a parent/guardian opting their child out of being in the classroom for the sexual abuse prevention/safety skills lesson, please give it to Michele as soon as possible. Thank you!!
PBIS Thoughts
Happy Presidents' Day! During your time today, spend a few minutes thinking about what can be done to support positive behavior in your classroom. Here are a few tips.
1. Have a "Cool Down Spot" in your room, or another classroom. A place that is safe for the student to think about their actions without being "in trouble."
2. Talk with your students about their choices and the logical consequences of those choices.
3. Encourage good choice partnerships, table buddies, etc. when assigning seats. Remember that they may need to be reshuffled at this point in the year.
4. Always remember that kids need support. They will not know our expectations until we teach them. Check out the PBIS lesson plans if you need any refresher lessons on behavior expectations.
Have a great Monday!
