Ensor Eagle News & Updates
Col. John O. Ensor Middle School: Sept. 20, 2021
Dear Ensor Families,
I want to thank you all for your partnership over the course of these last five years that I have served as the Principal of Col. John O. Ensor Middle School. It has been an honor and a pleasure to serve the Ensor Eagle community, a community of which I not only live in, but that of which I love. I have grown so much through the relationships built with you, our parents, but I have gained my most important learning through the daily interactions of watching our young Eagles grow into young adults. Everyone always says that middle school is a "tough" time for our kids and maybe they're right. However, when you take the strong family support from home and pair that with our great group of Ensor educators, our Eagles can't help but SOAR! So thank you for your trust and support over the course of these years and know that I will continue to serve our Socorro community to the best of my ability in my new role as Assistant Superintendent of Middle Schools. Our Ensor Eagle community will always hold a special place in my heart.
With that, let's continue on with the latest of Ensor Eagle News & Updates!
We are currently preparing for Fall Intersession which will run from October 4th - 8th. We have many students that will be invited. Please be on the lookout for the invitation. I ask that you please mark your calendars for this first full week of October because our students will need the additional remedial support to help close gaps missed over the course of the last year and a half. We need our Eagles to attend in order to better prepare them and so that they meet the requirements for House Bill 4545.
House Bill 4545 is a recent law that requires accelerated instruction to help support student learning loss. Regardless of grade, students that failed or did not test a STAAR subject qualifying assessment for a course that they were enrolled in last year require 30 hours of Targeted Accelerated Instruction (TAI). Currently teachers are keeping track of this support time as it is being provided; however, intersession is a key time for helping to achieve the milestone of state required support. So, I respectfully ask that you please take into consideration the need for our staff to support our Eagles during this time, and please send your child to intersession for the more targeted and more prescriptive delivery of academic support.
As always, I have included some additional information for your reference. I've also left some of the information from previous newsletters so that you can continue to have easy access to it. When all else fails, please remember to visit our web page for the latest updates that we post daily and as needed. And know that you are always welcome to email our administration and counselors for any additional support that you may need.
Again, thank you so much for your support as we continue to take it one day at a time, together, through whatever situation may befall us here at the Nest. Together, we can overcome anything.
As always, Eagles, please remember to follow the best recommended health practices so we can all do our part in keeping Team SISD safe!!
STAY HEALTHY AND SAFE, MY EAGLES!
