NHS Jags' Season Ends With First State Tournament Appearance
A loss at the hands of Albertville at the state volleyball tournament ended the season for the Northridge Jaguars volleyball team. But that defeat did not take away from the success of this season. The team goal was to make it to the state tournament. Led by first-year coach Ryan Gravlee, the Jaguars enjoyed the most successful season in the 17-year history of the school. Northridge earned the first ranking in school history when it cracked the top ten at #8. The team also went through area play with a perfect 4-0 record and swept the Hillcrest Patriots 3 games to 0 in the tournament finals. Northridge advanced to the Super Regionals in Montgomery where they topped Gulf Shores, Wetumpka, and Pelham before falling to Spanish Fort in the Finals. The Jaguars were seeded #2 in the state tournament.
Registration For the 2020 Bookin’ It for TCS Libraries 5k is Now Open!
Last year’s event helped raise money to start a brand new library for Success Prep Academy, and we hope to continue to be able to positively impact libraries across our district. On average, a TCS library book is 19 years old. State library enhancement funding was cut in 2008 and only reinstated during the 2015-2016 school year. Since being reinstated, it is at a severely lower funding level than the 2008 era. If all state library funding was spent entirely on book purchases, most of our libraries still could not afford to purchase even one whole book per student. We aim to change that!
The event will be held Saturday, February 29, 2020 at The Tuscaloosa Magnet Schools. The 5k will kick off at 8:00 a.m. Racers are encouraged to dress as their favorite book character, but this is not required. Awards will be given for first, second, and third place qualifiers in various age and gender categories, as well as best costume, and highest school participation.
