2nd Six Weeks Golden Bears News

New Book Preparation for Circulation

The 2nd Six Weeks started with new books purchased for the library. Students eagerly await the opportunity to check them out!

Please remember our book fairs are used to earn money to pay for new books! Your support of these functions helps your child have access to a greater variety of titles.

Dia De Los Muertos Altar

Our library participated in the first annual Dia De Los Muertos Altar Competition sponsored by UT-RGV Department of Mexican American Studies. Our school chose to honor the two sisters that our school is named after, Edith & Ethel Carman. Our display includes their college diplomas, a 1950s PSJA HS Yearbook, and other components traditionally found in an altar.

Library Hosts Educational Opportunities

Santa Ana Wildlife Ranger came to visit with our 5th graders. She taught them about the different pollinators found in our Rio Grande Valley area.

3rd Grade Hispanic Heritage Month Projects

Mrs. C. Gonzalez's students used some of our resources available through MackinVIA to learn about a famous Hispanic American in order to create their projects. Most of the students used GALE Kids InfoBits to research their famous Hispanic American.

Parent Advisory Council Meeting

Parents met in our library and learned about our library resources from the librarian. They also learned some math and science strategies from 5th grade teacher, Mrs. J. Garcia, and 3rd Grade Teacher, Mrs. Cindy Gonzalez. Our Assistant Principal, Mrs. Villescas, presented information on the STAAR Test.

Parents were also invited to obtain the passwords for an Open eBooks account.
