Words from the Woods
September 2018
2018-19 is underway!
I look forward to seeing you on the sidelines, in the halls, and around our community!

Social Media for Good
The Social Institute will visit Woods for two days to meet with our students, faculty, and parents. Parents are invited to attend a presentation titled “Coach Your Child to Win at Social Media” on September 17th from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. in The Great Room.
Founded by 4x Duke All-American and social media expert Laura Tierney, The Social Institute uses a refreshing, positive approach that teaches students to make positive, high-character choices whenever using social media and technology.
In preparation for their visit and Parent Presentation, we ask that you take 5 minutes to complete a parent and guardian survey by September 5th.

New Woods Magnet
The new WCSF magnet was designed by by our very own Daniel Skutvik, Class of 2019, and it is given as a "thank you" to all donors to our Annual Fund. There are many ways your family can directly support our Annual Fund (and get the magnet!):
*Become a monthly sustainer at http://www.woodscharter.org/Content2/donate
*Donate during Annual Fund Week in October.
*Raise the Paddle at our Benefit Auction on Fri, April 26th.
*Own a business? Become a school sponsor! Your business will be promoted to our school families, while you'll be contributing to our Annual Fund!
*Donate stock or your old car - the Foundation will happily take both!
*Have a state employee in the family? Woods Charter School Foundation is a charity in the State Employees Combined Campaign. Our code is 3968.
If you have questions or need more information, please visit Jessica Oliver in the front office, or email joliver@woodscharter.org.
Does my student need a laptop?
Woods students have access to technology, internet, and online resources at school, and often need to use collaboration platforms, word processors, multimedia texts, email, databases, online classroom spaces, and other digital tools in their academic work.
Please let the advisor or teachers know if you cannot provide your own device so we can find a workable solution.
Does it have to be a certain kind of computer?
No. Chromebooks, tablets, PCs or Macs all work fine. The main needs are internet access and a keyboard.
