Oster Newsletter
October 12, 2022
HALLOWEEN HAPPENINGS: Monday October 31st.
Halloween Parade:
We will be hosting our traditional parade on campus with families and friends at 1:15 pm. Please have your child wear clothing under their costumes so they can easily change out of the costume if they'd like.
Costumes Guidelines:
Students are welcome to wear their costumes to school on Monday 10/31. We ask that children NOT wear costumes depicting violence or violent acts. This includes fake blood, gore, or imagery that would not be "G rated".
Please leave all toy guns, knives, and swords at home. Reserve elaborate costumes, face paint and make-up for trick or treating as these things can create a learning distraction.
Halloween is an exciting time. Let's all help to make sure it is a safe and positive experience for the children while at school. Thank you for your support with these guidelines.
EARTHQUAKE DRILL
On Wednesday, October 19th, Oster will participate in an Earth Quake Drill. The purpose of our drill is:
- practice drop, cover, and hold procedures
- deploy teams and use established protocols to assess structural damage, conduct search and rescue operations, administer first aid as appropriate
- and test our internal communications
What should parents know in the event of a major disaster or emergency:
First remain calm, because, in the event of an emergency, your child is probably in one of the safest palaces they could be. School personnel will remain with the children.
Remember that no one will be in the office to receive a phone call in the event of an evacuation or emergency, so don't worry if no one answers the phone.
Give us at least 20-25 minutes to evaluate the school, get the children situated on the field/blacktop area, take attendance to account for all children, and prepare to implement our student release protocol.
Walk from home if possible. Leave the streets and our parking lot free for emergency vehicles. The roads may be crowded, so you will probably get to school fasted by foot or bicycle.
When coming to school to pick up your children, go directly to the upper grade blacktop area near the play structure. A student release staff member will work with you to sign out your child. Please remain calm and be patient while we do the necessary paperwork to ensure all children are accounted for.
Make sure all your student emergency and carpool contacts are up to date. The only people that can take your child from school during an emergency situation are those listed on the emergency contacts. Inform the people you have authorized to pick up your child in an emergency to bring identification with them.
Every month we practice various emergency situations. Rest assured that in your absence, your child will be in a safe place with plenty of caring adults ready to take care of their physical and emotional needs until you can get to them.
