Village News Updates
We are grateful for PTO President Doreen Genmark and Mindy Hayes, our School Liaison Officer, for facilitating our Veterans Day experiences for us and our students. We are proud to serve a school community with so many service members and veterans.
On Friday, our teachers experienced professional development in student discourse and in promoting Upstander vs. Bystander behavior. Our district-wide goal in student discourse is promoting increased student voice in the classroom, including developing skills for students to assert their opinions and provide evidence; listen to, agree with, and diverge from others' views; and participate in peer-led small-group discussions. A National Conflict Resolution Center team led us on a training to help us more effectively intervene when teasing or harassing behaviors happen at school. We will be introducing students to "upstander" and "bystander" vocabulary and steps to take when they experience or observe unkind words or actions.
This Week:
- Wednesday: Early Release at 1:40 K-5
We continue to have positive COVID cases reported in our district which affect attendance of those individuals who are close contacts. Thank you for your understanding as we navigate the ongoing pandemic and health and safety of our school community members together. See our district's COVID page for more information on our guidelines, decision tree, and responses to positive cases in our community. We will continue to have assigned seating in the cafeteria and in class and on the playground, we will continue to cohort recess activities based on rotations with our new program, Playworks. Review of Link to Playworks Recess program as presented at the beginning of the school year in the 1st bulletin. https://www.playworks.org

Morning Gates:
Village will be closing our morning gates at 8:10 am sharp. Please know we must do this because gate supervision staff need to be in their classroom at 8:10 am to support students. Asking staff to keep the gates open for late entries impacts our classroom supports and supervision. Thank you for understanding and entering through the office at 8:10 am or later. We appreciate everyone being on time, each day. Instruction starts at 8:10 am and we want everyone to have the same opportunity to begin the day with their classmates and getting off to a great school start each day.
Traffic:
Thank you everyone for working together for a safe arrival and departure to school.
Food Shortages: A Message from Nurtition Services:
We received notice this week regarding what is going on about food shortages with our the Nutiriton Services. Due to food shortages from our manufacturers and distributors, we are forced to make substitutions when items are unavailable. This seemed to be happening a lot in the past month and the probability of this continuing to get worse, is a real projection.
We will always have the number of options available at Village, though it may be not exactly what is on the menu. There are times that we may run out of an entree, but it should be few and far between and we make every effort to have the number of options available for all students throughout the lunch period.

Superhero Tickets
Students earn superhero tickets throughout the week for being safe, respectful, responsible and kind. They can earn them from any adult on campus who sees them exhibiting superhero behaviors.
Each Monday and Friday, after school, students will be able to bring their tickets in to trade for prizes. If they would like to save up their tickets, they can!
15 tickets=1 prize!
If your student has enough tickets to trade in for a prize, they will be escorted to the office before school lets out to pick a prize!
See below for other options.
