Turkey Paintings
At independent centers this week (and next), kindergartners are following directions to paint on their own, and the turkeys are turning out wonderful! You'll be able to see them on lockers in the coming days.
Conferences + Progress Reports
Please be aware every family is given 20 minutes; although at times it can seem too short, we need to stick to the schedule to respect everyone's time.
Progress reports will be in folders on Monday afternoon. We can touch base about questions at your child's conference!
SEEF
We are fortunate to receive a new light table and manipulatives. Please visit the SEEF site to learn more about what this local organization does to impact student learning here in Shakopee.
What we learned
Take a look into our class
Reading:
- Kindergartners learned how to "read" picture illustrations and identify character feelings through the story The Day the Crayons Quit. We also learned to use expression when reading and how acknowledging other's feelings (the way Duncan acknowledged the crayons feelings) helps make them feel better and in return, us too!
- We also practiced making inferences through color books and reading color words.
Writing:
- I continue to model the five steps of writing, but I began showing the kindergartners what dot and say is; this tool (dot and say) is used to show all words in the sentence are present.
- The kindergarten expectation at this time is to have beginning and ending sounds present for each word in their sentence.
Poem/Phonics:
- Poem: Oh, Rainbow (sung to the tune of "Oh Christmas Tree)
- New HFW: how, are, your
- We wrapped up beginning sounds this week. Kindergartners will still practice these skills during independent centers.
Math:
- Kindergartners learned basic 2D shapes and how to code.
