What my Customer needs

An elderly customer has come to buy a computer as a surprise gift for their grandchild going to college in the fall. They know that their grandchild is enrolled in a computer Science program, but gosh-darn-it they do not really understand what that means. Since they love their grandchild so much, they are willing to spend a whopping $1,750 on their computer.

Processor (CPU)

In a computer, the CPU is responsible for handling all the instructions that it receives from hardware and software running on the computer.

The Model of the processor: Intel Core i5-4670 Quad-Core Processor

I specifically chose this processor since it is very powerful to handle programming and is also very fast to help you browse and load up your files without having to wait. Also, this processor is mainly mean't to be for hardcore gaming, so therefore it'll be more than enough to use for programming at it stands at a very decent price.

I would purchase this processor from Canada computers with the price of $249.99 http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=4_1210_65&item_id=060640

Graphics Card (GPU):

Graphics cards are also known as video cards that are part of a computer, responsible for generating a feed of output images to display either to your computer's screen or to an externally connected display (a monitor or television).

The model of this Graphics card:

EVGA GeForce GTX 760 2GB Dual Superclocked ACX Video Card

I selected this graphics card specifically because it has the amount of memory (2GB) needed on any computer today and it will help run any program without having any lag issues. Also, it'll be decent when it comes to gaming if the customer wanted to play games whenever they want to, or if they ever wanted to edit videos, it'll do well for faster rendering. It also comes with 2 external custom fans from EVGA that will help the graphics card cool in a hot weather. if the graphics card is hot, it can damage all the components inside it and therefore the performance of the graphics card with decrease.

I would purchase this graphics card from Canada Computers with the price of $259.99 http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=43_1200_557_559&item_id=061674

Random Access Memory (RAM)

Random Access Memory or volatile memory is used by the system to store data for processing by a computer's central processing unit (CPU) also known as the processor. RAM stores the data in memory cells that are arranged in grids much like the cells are arranged in a spreadsheet from which data in the binary form of 1's and 0's, that can be accessed and transferred at random to the processor for processing by the system's software.

The model of this RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 4GB (2 x 2GB)

I specifically chose this model because 4GB is more than enough for programming and your computer won't require more than that since programming doesn't require a lot of intense editing or rendering.

I would buy this RAM from Canada Computers with the price of $51.00 http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=24_311_312_612&item_id=035782

Optical Disk Drive

An Optical drive is a disk drive that uses laser light or electromagnetic waves within or near the visible light spectrum as part of the process of reading or writing data to or from optical disks.

The model of this Optical Disk Drive:

LG (GH24NS95B) Internal 24x DVD-Writer, OEM
- Black, SATA, M-DISC

There's not really that much difference between optical drives except that some of them read and write on the disk and some of them only read. This one is great since it does both. You can add files on it and you can read files that are recorded on the CD.

I would buy this optical disk drive from Canada Computers with the price of $19.99 http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=3_61&item_id=054962

Hard Disk Drive (HDD)

A hard disk drive was first introduced on September 13th, 1956. This is the computer's main storage media device which could permanently store all data on the computer. It is a device that stores all software installed on a computer including all the data files that are created and used by this software.

The Model of this Hard Disk Drive: WD Red 3TB 3.5" SATA3 64MB

I chose this hard disk because it has a lot of space (3TB) and in programming, you need a lot of storage on your computer to be able to save all your work because I assume you will have a lot of files that you need to save, so therefore you need a lot of storage. Also, you need a lot of storage for your programs that you're going to be using. Other than all of this, you will also need storage for videos, music, pictures, games, and all your stuff.

I would buy this hard disk from Canada Computers with the price of $129.99 http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=15_1086_210_212&item_id=050755

The motherboard itself is a printed circuit board that allows the CPU, RAM and all other computer hardware components to communicate with each other. It is important because it is the equipment that connects all the computer parts together to work and make a computer. It is the most important part of the computer because without it you won't be able to connect anything together.

The Model of this MotherBoard: Asus Z97-A ATX LGA1150

I chose this motherboard specifically because it it supports up to 32GB of Ram and can handle all the components without having any issues like no enough voltage from the power supply or any of that. Also, it has SLI support and has 1 SATA express and 4 SATA 6 Gb/s.

I would buy this motherboard from Canada Computers with the price of $159.99 http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=26_1207_1206_1201&item_id=071433

Case is what carries all the computers components and combines them all into one piece.

The Model of this case: Corsair Carbide Series 300R

Cases don't really matter when it comes to performance unless if it has custom fans included with it. This specific case will be good for everything since it has really good airflow cooling system which will keep the computer away from burning.

I would buy this case from Canada Computers with the price of $69.99 http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?item_id=044716

Power Supply

A Power supply unit converts mains AC to low-voltage regulated DC power for the internal components of a computer. Modern personal computer universally use a switched-mode power supply. Some Power supplies have a manual selector for input voltage, while others automatically adapt to the supply voltage.

The model of this Power Supply: Corsair Bulider 750W 80

I specifically chose this power supply since it's the cheapest to support all the components that are included in the pc and it has 750Watts. This amount is more than enough to give all the power that the components need in the computer.

I would buy this power supply from NCIX with the price of $75.00 http://www.ncix.com/detail/corsair-cx-series-cx750-750w-0f-75728.htm

A mouse is a smaller input device used to navigate around the computer and without the mouse/curser the user will not be able to move around the computer.

Model of this mouse: Logitech B100

This mouse is more than enough to do anything for anyone who needs navigate through the computer. For programming, you don't need a fancy mouse to do crazy work.

I would buy this mouse from Canada Computers with the price of $9.99 http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=283&item_id=034671

In a computer a keyboard is a technological device that helps users input characters by typing on the buttons/keys. A keyboard helps the user type words and create documents, search the web, etc. The keyboard is a very important part of the computer because without the keyboard it would be a hassle to use a computer since the keyboard is a needed piece of equipment for easy input and control.

Model of this keyboard: Logitech K120 USB Keyboard

I specifically chose this keyboard since you don't need something fancy to be able to type on the computer, so this keyboard will do anything you wish for any keyboard to do for you specifically for programming.

I would buy this keyboard from Canada Computer with the price of $19.99 http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?item_id=031809

Python is a software.

Python is a free software, therefore you can download it from https://www.python.org/downloads/

Absolute C++

This software is a programming software and will be used for coding and teach you how to understand computer language and what it means.

Absolute C++ is a program, and I chose to install this program because as my customer mentioned, his grandchild is going to be studying computer science, so therefore this program will help him browse over what he should have in mind and will help him develop ideas with the work he's learning in college.

I would purchase this program off of Amazon with the price of $52.00 http://www.amazon.com/Absolute-4th-Edition-Walter-Savitch/dp/0136083811

A. Yes, I stayed under budget with the price of $1,601 with tax. The strategy I used was to go with the components that don't cost too much, but give out an incredible performance. For programming, you don't need a high end pc, so therefore you get to save a lot of money compared to a gaming pc.

B. http://www.amazon.com/INtel-3-4Ghz-GeForce-DESKTOP-GAMING/dp/B00FN7DTOO INtel Z97 Core i5 4670 3.4Ghz 8Gb DDR3 1TB WIN7 GeForce GTX 760 2Gb. This PC from amazon costs $1254 without any programs installed except for the operating system. As for my PC, it costs $1,145 without programs installed except for the operating system. So you're saving at least $100 in the same performance. Also, my PC still costs less with 3TB Hard Disk Drive while this one only has 1TB. Notice, these prices are still without any tax included. My computer with tax and operating system only cost $1,293 while the other computer from amazon costs $1417

C. Building your own computer is usually better because you get to pick the components that you need for the specific task you're going to be doing with it. Also, when you compare your pc to another one that's similar, the pre-built one would usually be a bit more expensive since they would charge you money because the pc was assembled by the company that made it. Also, building your own PC is a great experience since you get to find out what are the components inside the computer and how well they perform and what they do.

D. Buying a pre-assembled computer would only be better if you don't know how to assemble a pc yourself. Therefore, you might break something and that'll be a total waste of money. Not a great idea! Also, it'll make you less worried about having problems with your pc since you were not the person who built it.
