The Making Of The Coffee Table
A sad, sad story.
The Group Members Include: Giovanna Santiago, Liam Woods, Clayton, Caitlin and Yvonna Ramirez
The story begins off as 5 group members decide to make a chair for a project, but through the process of actually constructing a chair the humble 5 members realize that chair is far too difficult to construct with the little knowledge they held. The group members the decide to create a very large coffee table instead. Then the group members began to grow more and more increasingly discouraged, yet they did not give up.
The Deconstruction
We began by deconstructing two large palettes, we did this by using Claytons' power-tools to aid us in this hard work. Then they cut all pieces to be the same size for the measurements of the table.
The Sanding
Then as the boys handed over the pieces they severed from the pallets, the girls of the group began to sand the pieces to ensure smooth wood to work with to avoid splinters in the later processes.
The Construction
Then we began to actually construct the perimeter/frame of the coffee table by nailing all four side together and adding the four table legs.
The Weight Test
Before constructing the table top we laid a couple of boards across the frame we made and had Clayton sit on it to ensure the table would be strong enough to support actual weight.
The Top Construction
Next, we constructed the top of the table with the exact boards we did the weight test with. After cutting them to size we proceeded to nail them to the fame creating a flat surface.
The Final Sanding
After the table was fully constructed and standing we did one last final sanding to make the surface of the table as smooth as possible for the first coat of paint we would do later on.
The Painting
After the final sanding, the surface of the table was smooth enough tho paint. We proceed to paint on 2 even coats of paint and let it dry for 2 days.
The Final Step
Finally we had finished the table! It was done and we arranged a lamp and picture on top of the table for a picture. :)
