Remembering To Be Grateful For What We Have...Especially The Little Things
Upon reflection of this video, it did such an impactful job of making a very serious point that we all can learn from and pass on to our children--be grateful for the gifts you already have. In this age of comparison, of FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) on social media, or of trying to impress others with always feeling like we have to have the latest new thing, it takes us (the parents) to model for our children and remind them how fortunate we already are. Food on the table each day, a roof over our head with heat as the weather turns, clothes, shoes, a daily shower and even the ability to go to an amazing school like Pleasantdale Middle School full of people who work extremely hard and care deeply about each and every child are all things that I am grateful for today and every day.
Tips for Positive and Productive Parent/Teacher Conferences From Teachers
Metra Safety Poster and Essay Contest
Metra Safety Poster and Essay Contest - For the 13th straight year, Metra asked the region's students to illustrate through posters or essays the importance of safe behaviors near railroad tracks and rail crossings. The theme for the 2018-2019 school year: “Use Your Senses" emphasizes the importance of being aware and using all your senses -- including common sense -- when around trains and railroad tracks. The contest is open to all students in grades K through 12 living or attending school in Metra’s six-county service area: Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry and Will. The deadline for all entries is Thursday, Jan. 31, 2019. Information on the winners of the 2017-2018 contest can be found here.

Tiger Tipline
While it is always best to talk directly to a staff member, we understand that sometimes this can be uncomfortable or difficult for students or parents. At Pleasantdale Middle School, we offer the Tiger Tipline as an anonymous tool for reporting unsafe, uncomfortable, or unkind behaviors and situations. We explicitly teach the students that if they ever see something or hear something that makes them feel unsafe, uncomfortable, or is unkind, either online or in person, they should tell a “trusted adult” which could be parents, school personnel, or other adults in their lives. The Tiger Tipline can be accessed here and we will post the link in Schoology and create a shortcut to the link on the student devices for easy access.
Dates for the Year
If you are like me, you want to know the dates for the year as far in advance as possible. As long as you understand that something may change due to unforeseen circumstances, I’d like to provide you access to the dates we’ve planned for the year (many of which are in the paper calendar you received in the mail). To access the middle school calendar dates, please click here.
