A Message from Superintendent Dr. Shawn Olson ~ 3-5-2021
Fourth Quarter Update
Now that fourth quarter learning commitments for all students have been received, we continue to move forward with preparations to return the majority of our students to full day in-person learning beginning Wednesday, April 7. Below are a few updates on our progress.
Commitment Form Results
Thank you to everyone who took the time to fill out a Fourth Quarter Learning Commitment Form for their student(s). The results are as follows:
- 79% chose in-person learning
- 21% chose remote learning
We are working diligently on scheduling and bus routing and will get that information to you as quickly as possible. In the meantime, we are setting up and photographing model classrooms to show students, parents, and teachers what to expect when they return to school in-person. Look for that information in our next communication.
Supplementary Safety Measures
To provide safer classroom environments for our students and staff, we are installing air purifiers in all classrooms, offices, lunchrooms, media centers, and gymnasiums. They are specifically designed to filter the air in these designated spaces and provide an additional layer of protection for students and staff. Air purifiers, wearing masks, practicing good hand hygiene, and social distancing when possible, are just some of the measures that the District is utilizing to help everyone stay safe while in school.
Vaccinations
Working with Thornton Fractional South High School and Andrew High School, we have been able to provide staff with opportunities to schedule their COVID-19 vaccinations. Between these two sites and availability at local pharmacies, I am confident that any District employee who wants to be vaccinated will have that opportunity prior to the start of fourth quarter.
As we look forward to the final quarter of the 2020-21 school year, we do so with great pride and great hope. Many of our staff have received vaccines, positivity rates in our community continue to decrease, and our school community continues to work in partnership with us to support our students. Thank you for your patience and flexibility.
Respectfully,
Dr. Shawn Olson
Superintendent
