Find Your Marigold
Jennifer Gonzalez (2013) wrote a great post about the one essential rule for new teachers. Find your marigold.
Marigolds are interesting plants in that gardeners often plant them as companion plants. They offer protection from pests and weeds. If you plant a marigold beside a vegetable, the vegetable will likely growth in size and stay healthy, thanks to it's proximity to the marigold.
Marigolds exits in your school too. They really are everywhere if you look for them- your administrators, your instructional coaches, your mentors and each other! They are those people who are encouraging, supportive and nurturing. They greet you cheerfully in the morning, they offer help and sincerely want to see you thrive. They are excited about the school, their class and the chance to be there each day. Find those people. Stay close to them. You will grow too.
Looking Forward to Our September Meeting
